eBay Turbo Kit

I know it sounds like a horrible idea, but I've been looking into supercharging or turbo charging my car during the summer. Just been trying to research everything so I do it all right. Money is a big factor since I'm just a college student so I've been leaning towards an eBay type kit. My plan would be to buy an eBay kit and slowly upgrade it one or two parts at a time with namebrand items and then sell off the old eBay kit.

This.

You would save a lot of money and time down the road if you didn't cheap out on ebay junk.

Friend bought a eclipse with a ebay turbo on it, yes it was fun, yes it worked alright.... For 2 months, now it hasn't moved since.

if you really want a cheap boost kit, find someone selling a m62 kit. they get sold fairly cheap all the time. if you dont wanna shell out the cash for a real turbo kit.

If money is a factor then don't mess with the car until you are able to easily.

I just graduated a few months ago so I know your pain man. You're much better off saving your money for a real kit. Just remember that power and reliability are never "cheap." Plus you'll then have the expenses of extra wear and tear on components and unexpected failures. I'd agree with umrdyldo on this one.

You'll have more headaches and spend more money trying to get an eBay turbo kit to work than you'd ever have with a legit kit.

I wouldn't even agree with that. Like said before, if money is a big factor it is better off to wait. You'll run into unexpected issues. Things break. If it is something that can break your bank it isn't the best investment.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that the eBay turbo kits aren't all horrible. As long as you find one with a legitimate turbine housing you can always buy a rebuild kit from Garrett and have a decent turbo. It's not a bad place to start, but its certainly not a full kit of everything you're gonna need.

I will however second the motion of just getting a used M62 take-off. Its a cheaper and easier way to get about the same amount of power you would from the eBay turbo kit.

EBay kits are fine. Buy a good waste gate and Bov. I've seen foxbodys make 800 plus on an eBay turbo kit for years.

Thats an incredibly outdated way of thinking about cars, because all of those criteria are relative. Delta's can be made fast and reliable for cheap, especially when compared to other types of cars. Hell, $6-7k can supercharge, forge internals, and replace the clutch on a base model and make it fast and reliable (if you're handy with a wrench), and that's a lot cheaper than other cars in the same category. With maybe an exception being made for Hondas.
