GT2860R (Disco Potato Discussion)

I know a lot of people are putting on the hahn kit on their 2.2's right now.

And, I've seen a lot of people saying that it's only good for producing like 220 hp.

But, has anyone gone forged and upped the psi on this thing? I know it's good until like 360 hp, which is WAY more than I would ever want anyways. What's stopping people from reaching 300+ hp? If there's 2.2's reaching 300's please tell me, but what's the limitations of the 2.2 that restricts it from reaching big numbers?

From what I've heard:

Rods snap at over 250 hp
Pistons are good until 300 hp
Auto transmission is good until 300 hp

Anything else I should know of?

Yes, and for good reasons.

I'd rather know to upgrade my stuff at 250 instead of pushing it and blowing it at 260 with another half pound of boost.

The auto trans is taking my power levels fine....It's not the hp that kills the auto it's the torque.

Wait, is your sig right? You're making 261 hp / 350+ tq? It's normally the other way around.

You sure that's not supposed to be a 2? Nice numbers at 11 psi too.

So, what can be done about the tranny? Isn't there aftermarket torque converters?

yeah my sig is right. I just have a permacool tranny cooler and a trans temp gauge to monitor it, usually around 180 degrees on hard driving.

The thing is, until you can get a custom tune, '05 and '06 2.2's are restricted to a certain range with the Garrett kit. Unless you go with a piggyback or get a Trifecta tune and then you can get the most out of the gt28r.

To paraphrase:
So the only thing limiting the power of the kit is the tune?

...how did the tuner manage to do this?

and yes, I believe the garret kit's included tune limits boost to 8psi?

the turbo wastegate actuator rod can be manually turned to up the boost but mine is turned all the way and can only achieve 11psi

Interesting...
I have the Garrett Turbo kit running a steady 13 PSI and 14 if I hold the pedal all the way down.
Haven't blown the engine yet but I also have a restrictive Dp and 2 1\4" GMPP Touring Catback so I'm probably not making 250 Hp. Can't wait to dyno and get real numbers
Been over 1800 Km since the install and no problems so far.

that is odd. I wonder if its because of the restrictions you still have in place though that doesnt make sense to me.
