GT2871R To big?

Today i went to mount my turbo, i have it on the manifold cause i find it would be easier that way.
well 1st problem was getting it past the axel, i had to remove that, now i get the turbo up inside behind the motor and try to rotate it to fit and what do you know? it wont fit! what am i to do? i dunno what to do now.

Big Fucking Hammer. DONT do that. lol these cars are unibody and you will weaken the bulkhead

pykie 02-18-2009 09:51 PM

on the weekend im gonna try doing it with out the turbo attached and then try the turbo, i think i have the turbine mounted the wrong way like the charge pipe side might not be far enough forward.

you guys do realize this is a unibody car right? denting or cutting the bulkhead will flex the car more and crush easier during an accident

if you want to get something that wont fit in back there, i have a solution that might work

(1) undo both tranny mounts
(2) use a jack under the oil pan(use a block of wood to distribute the force)
(3) use the jack to tilt the engine more forward of backwards, this will give you more room to slide things in from the bottom or thru the top, pending which way u tilt it

we did this for my buddies sc build, we could get to the tensionor b/c of how close it was to the body, we ended up tilting the engine upwards to get to it eaiser, than put it back down and was all good

also you can remove the valve cover for some more play room up top

i dunno about the 2871 but see if you can rotate the housing slightly.. that'll definitely help out

slowswap 02-21-2009 03:45 PM

What's hitting what?

Kennyspec 02-22-2009 05:01 PM

first of all what A/R is the housings? I hope around a .64 shoul dhave NO problems fitting it back there, i have a 2871 on my car. Only thing may be that the vulcan manifold needs the flange cut off and rotated around a bit.

Lets see some pics of the problem. PM me if you need any more help.

Jn2 02-22-2009 05:11 PM

he got it on now, i told him how to make it fit, it fits back there, just not so easy to squeeze it in thru the top or bottom

b_faulk75 02-22-2009 07:44 PM

So what did you have to do to make it fit?

unijabnx2000 03-02-2009 08:00 PM

lol guess im too late to see if you want to trade your 71 for my 60.

Jn2 03-02-2009 08:10 PM

i believe he is selling the turbo , check the classifieds, or go thru his thread history, ull see a FS thread on it
