Ram air?

My friend wanted to put a ram air on his 85 mustang convertable. So i started to design a system that would work. Last night we finished the whole ram air. You could feel the engine sucking in the air at idle. the system worked great. Has anyone managed to make a functional hood scoop or a ram air system for the cobalt? Im starting to think I might make one myself.

I know someone got the GMPP intake,

Bought a stick on hood scoop, put it over the air box, cut the holes in the hood.

It was pretty sharp. He basically took a hood scoop thats for looks..and made it functional.

what are the kind of gains you would expect to see from ram air?

water hitting the filter won't cause that issue. in face, even if you had the filter open to the wind, no amount of rain would be anything to worry about.

hell, around 1970, it was all the rage for cars to have factory ram scoops.

well the GMPP still has a "box" what happens if its a real down pour, your car has been sitting and that fills up with water?

It wont fill up with water. First of all the rain falls vertically and the scoop has a horizontal hole, and also there is a huge hole right under the filter.

Not worth it.

I tried a setup on my DSM, there was barely any noticeable difference, even from a 60 roll.

I don't think it would help us out much, seeing as our intakes are pretty much separated from the heat of the engine bay. It didn't have much of a ram air effect at all, I attributed any difference to slight IAT reduction.

The Suncoast ones are designed to keep water from passing all the way through the hood to the intake and allows the water to drain elsewhere, instead of into the filter/intake/intake box.

Personally, I'm looking into maybe coupling the Suncoast with a short ram intake setup as they seem to line up about right. You'd then have the benefits of the short ram intake, while retaining the benefits of what is effectively a cold air intake too.
