I doubt it, but that's a good idea. I've said it before, I really hope GM provides some aftermarket options and support for the Cobalt.

GM is supposedly fully supporting the Ecotec platform with various parts. I'm assuming, since it's performance related, it'll be rods, pistons, potentially cams and perhaps T/C or S/C alternatives/mods. Maybe exhaust. Who knows. The article I read about it wasn't very forthcoming.

The bottom end supposedly very strongly built already, but of course even stronger is better. I hope that they offer some good t/ or s/ charger upgrades and the corresponding computer engine management upgrades for the car that will really boost power.

It would seem half-ass if they didn't offer SOME parts, considering just about every other car company has a racing development/performance team selling parts. Some under warranty, others not. But, really...that's becoming part of the market. Not only offering a cheap, but sporty and quick platform to build on, but parts to compliment from the factory.

Exactly. I'm thinking that GM needs to do this in order to viably compete against DCX and the Mopar support they offer for the SRT-4.

gm has already put out plenty of performance parts for the ecotec platform, which are on the 2.0 (most of them), they already have a wicked intake manifold that bolts up to the 75mm ls1 tb

Any more information on this? That's a HUGE TB for a 2.0 engine. But if you have the airflow..I suppose it's justified. Sounds like S/C only, however. And...there'd need to be some ECU/fuel mods for sure to accomodate more air.

thats if u want to build it as an all out race car. most people want street performance. hope gm didnt mess up by not making the engine internals capable of holding 4 or 500 hp, damn the mitsu 4g63 is capable of the 450whp mark and gm did build the 2.0 for performance so lets hope they built a stock bottom end to be able to handle 400-500whp. would be nice.

I heard the stock 2.2 ecotec bottom end can take 300hp+ easy so the 2.0 should be able to take 400hp especially with its forged crankshaft

stock 2.2 crank can handle around 350 rods and pistons go out at 280.

I'd love to know how GM raised the rev limiter and reprogrammed the ECU to take numbers up to around 270 hp for the SEMA Cobalt, hell with CAI and pulley if i could do that! lol

7000+ RPM is really sweet. Just so I'm sure, if the ECU allows boost to keep building by not opening the bypass valve, just the extra RPM of the engine allows boost to build higher then 12PSI (16) without needing a smaller pully, right?

We will offer staged upgrade kits - 15, 18, and 21psi. The motor will handle it.

Obviously we're in the same boat as the rest of you - waiting for the car to be shipped so we can start testing prototypes. Nothing available yet, but stay tuned...

sounds good to me, why not start with the Redline? will essentially be the same car! that way you can have upgrades when the cobalt comes out

Perfect. That's what I want, as long as I can be sure I won't have big reliability issues.

The question is whether they will install the stage kits at the dealer or at the plant if you order it with the car. I would be annoyed if I ordered an SS and later when they offered the kits it was from the plant so you can't get them...

I'm running over 400whp on my stock internals. I only had to mod the fuel & air system to run that much.
