Stock 2.4L internals

I have $5000 saved up for a turbocharger and im looking to get the hahn. With the hahn being 4k id like to add $1000 in extras. Should i spend this extra 1k on internals for the engine or am i safe with around 300hp?

What are some safe HP/boost amounts for the 2.4L internals.

Thanks!

it's been my experience if you're going to go with large boost... it never hurts to upgrade internal parts.

You're going to spend more than 1k

1k will get you pistons and connecting rods and that's about it.

You also have to get head studs or bolts, head gasket and atleast get the engine balanced.

Are there any sites you recommend for pistons and rods?

It's only 2.25 kinda small imo for a turbocharged engine. I would go with a 2.5 inch

spend the extra 1K to monitor your motor, A/F gauge, boost gauge and EGT gauge

I wouldn't push the 2.4 motor anywhere near 300whp if you'd like a reliable setup

300 whp has been reliable on the solstices so i would say youll be fine with the right tuning. and the extras like gauges and a bigger exhaust. upgraded brakes

i would go with the rebel turbo kit. it's cheaper so you can spend more on making your engine stronger

I was under the impression that the hahns turbo holds up just fine with stock parts from what they advertice, so probaly any internals that you could do would help, but from what i got with their turbo its set up to work fine on a stock 2.4 auto

Seriously do some reading up on how Turbocharged systems work. Even though you're buying a kit, knowing what everything does could make or break your project. Also read up on Fuel Injection systems and the basics of Engine Management Systems.

x2.

also, i'd seriously consider reading up on the basics of modifying the EFI system and tuning it.

it seems, to me, that every car is different, and a "Canned" tune job may not be the best.

At the 300 HP mark (at the crank) you shouldn't HAVE to have internal work done. I have great faith in Hahn's assessment of the the LE5's ability to handle the power; few people have worked and tested the 2.4's strength as extensively as him. I personally would use the remainder of your money for gauges (Boost, A/F) to monitor your system's safety and performance

Hanh has pushed the internals to over 400+ hp, and running at 29 hp at the crank at 8psi and 241 at the wheels.

Yeah the engine I think is fine up to 400 hp. That seems to be the general consensus anyway. But the transmission WILL NOT hold up. Plus you have none of the supporting modifications. Oil Cooler, TRansmission cooler, strut braces, at least a 2.5 inch exhaust, all that jazz. The engine is fine, the rest of the car isn't.
Hahn's turbo kit is set up to boost fairly conservative numbers, He was pushing about 250HP and into the 13's on stock tires.

The 2.4 uses forged rods so they'll be just fine. Our crank is forged too so problem there either! If you plan to go WAY high you may consider new forged pistons and total seal rings too. The rings are free hp!

Yeah those strut braces are key with any turbo kit
