Cobalt SS/SC: Wins Grand Am Chemung Canal Trust 200

<img src="http://www.cobaltss.org/pix/cobalt-ga.jpg" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5">It's a first win for the Cobalt SS/SC.

WATKINS GLEN, NY - The SCADAPack Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged made history at he Chemung Canal Trust 200 Grand Am Cup event on June 11, as it became the first win for the new offering from GM. "I couldn't be happier for our whole Georgian Bay Motorsports team, and for Chevrolet," said Jim Holtom after the historic win.

After qualifying fifth, Jim Holtom took the first stint and was running comfortably until a fuel issue cropped up. "I radioed in it just quit," Holtom said. "The team told me to switch to the reserve fuel system and to come in, just as I arrive, the race went full course yellow. It was a big break for us."

Holtom handed the # 00 SCADAPack Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged over to new teammate Andy Lally, who was filling in for Jamie Holtom this weekend. Jamie has not yet had his 18th birthday, so he was unable to compete at the Glen. Lally went out, but the team knew his laps would be limited as the SCADAPack Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged refused to run on the main fuel system. "We took parts from our backup car, and told Andy to come back to the pits. Again the full course caution flew and we caught a break."

The Georgian Bay Motorsports team managed to fix the problem and now the rest was up to Lally. "He did a great job filling in for Jamie, and made the passes we needed to get the win," Holtom said.

With the win, the team is charged up about coming to Mosport this weekend. "Mosport is essentially our home race, and now more than ever we are looking forward to racing in front of the Canadian fans. It is always a great weekend at Mosport, and hopefully we can build on the momentum from the Glen," Holtom said.

At Mosport, Holtom will once again be teamed up with his son Jamie Holtom.

Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged Fast Facts; The Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged is Chevrolet's new contender for the tuner market. With a 2.0L DOHC Supercharged 205 hp motor, performance suspension, four wheel ABS disc brakes, and a five speed manual transmission, the Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged takes "go" to the next level.

That looks like the production spoiler. Does that mean it's a functional spoiler for racing? I thought it was just for looks.

Yeah it does. Did they do much to it or is it bone stock? The rims look different, but then again I don't know what they look like spinning.

The wheels are different, 17 x 8 forged.

The removed the A/C, put in a bigger intercooler, smaller pulley, upgrade suspension, the LSD, Corsa exhaust (cat delete), low restriction air filter (looks a lot like a K&N)

The final drive ratio is also 4.45 a tad more than stock.

The estimated HP for the Grand Am SS/Sc Cobalt is 235 HP

Oh and it has a roll cage.

You can read all about it in the GM ecotec build book

It's not a GM intercooler so nope. It's a Dual pass intercooler radiator as opposed to the single pass stock intercooler. I can't remember the actual brand name.

Actually its a dual pass intercooler, as in the piece in the manifold. along with a larger ( i believe Griffin made)intercooler radiator., its the radiator that requires the removal of the ac components, I dont think the dual pass intercooler is available to the genreal public yet.
