Turbo 2.2 2.4 people should be keeping an eye on the XFE people.

You want their final drive

I have also since corrected myself - per Chevorlet, every 2.2 5-speed ordered on or after March 17 of this year is "XFE". It was a mid-year update.

I just bought a 1LT Cobalt XFE three weeks ago. I drive 67 miles one way to work (all highway) and can make two trips on a tank of fuel. The DIC indicates I can make 3, but I am not going to chance it. With 3000 miles on the car already, the best I have seen is 36.1 mpg with the cruise set on 65 mph. Get over 65 mph and I may get 34 at best. The combined is about 32 mpg so far. My parents have a '08 Honda Civic with a automatic and it averages 37 on the highway. As far as power, it does Ok for 148 hp. To my understanding, the only change in the transmission was 5th gear. What I don't understand is that the XFE manual transmission is only available in the LS or the 1LT. I wanted the 2LT but it only comes with the automatic in '08. A co-worker that has a '07 Civic w a 5 speed, makes the same drive as me and claims he gets around 38 on his. I looked at the Civics, but decided to buy American. I'll give it about 3000 more miles and switch to synthetic. That should help some. Thanks - 08cobalt1lt

Oh no no no...the stage 3 just disables your A/C altogether.

The difference in the trans is the final drive ratio of 3.73

It makes all the gears longer.

I bought my non-XFE 2.2L 5-speed in April - I average about 36 highway and 30 city. Since mine was manufactured in December, it is definitely not an XFE as they started to be manufactured in mid-March - but it sure gets the MPG like an XFE.

XFE gets 36mpg on the highway? My 06 LS gets 38 on the highway with the AC on. I average 34 mpg (mostly city with some highway) with the AC on and 36 mpg with the AC off. I think all Cobalts are selling fast now. I want a lightened 2.2 Camaro. I read Chevys next small car is going to have a 1.4turbo.

stg II and other perf mods on my SS and I get 37 on the highway. And yes, the a/c kicking off on WOT is nothing new at all, mine does it. I well probably get alot better mileage once I get tuned up alittle. When I had my '07 LS I got close to 40 on the hwy so xfe= whatever
