GM press release 241 HP SS

<img src="https://www.cobaltss.net/articles/sema6.jpg" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5">241 HP SS
GM Performance Parts is adding some extra juice to the already high-voltage 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS coupe by taking the wraps off of two supercharger kits at the 2005 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) annual show in Las Vegas .
“These stage kits are aimed squarely at the hard core enthusiast looking to boost the power of the Cobalt SS’s already charged-up 205-horsepower engine,” said Nancy Philippart, executive director, GM Accessories. “They deliver increased horsepower and torque throughout the engine’s operating range.”

GM Performance Parts will offer separate Stage 1 and Stage 2 supercharger kits. The Stage 1 Kit includes higher-flow fuel injectors and an ECU calibration to provide a 31 hp boost to the Cobalt’s engine for a total of 236 hp and 205 lb.-ft. of torque. Add in the Stage 2 Kit, with its smaller supercharger pulley and drive belt, and the engine comes alive with 241 hp and 218 lb.-ft. of torque across a broad engine speed range.

“The kits are easy to install and conform to all GM engineering and validation standards for the Cobalt,” said Philippart. “And, best of all, they’re backed by GM.”

The Cobalt Stage 1 and Stage 2 Kits will be available at GM dealerships in the first quarter of 2006.

GM Accessories and GM Performance Parts are sold in North America by Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC, Saturn, Saab and HUMMER dealerships. For more information about GM Parts, GM Accessories or GM Performance Parts, visit www.gmgoodwrench.com.

240whp is nice, very nice.
Go figure, with intake, exhaust, headers, and some other goodies we could easily be at 260- 270 whp !!

the 241 is probably really already 260 at the wheels. GM is using the 205 base #. Most people dyno arround 220. Add that extra 15 onto the 241 and you have 256 HP if not more. It would be awesome if the stage kits where under rated too!

i dont understand. with the stage 1 u get 231 with computer work and injectoers. now the stage 2 is JUST PULLEY's? or is that injectors, pulleys and computer work? i guess it wouls have to be just pulleys because theres only a 10 whp difference. AND DANG IT. THEY DIDNT GIVE A PRICE

Agreed... After getting walk'd (and I mean HARD) by an SRT4 Stg2 ... The stage kits aren't thrilling me as much as they once were.

Just be careful on claims ...

-GM claims a 15% HP increase just from stock to Stage 1 (from 205 to 236 HP).
-GM claims a 18% HP increase from stock to Stage 2 (from 205 to 241 HP).

We have to be careful with HP claims : The street tuner challenge's Cobalt SS/SC dynoed stock at 211 WHP and with the pulley and largest injectors it dynoed at 236 HP. It's only a 12% improvement over stock from the "Stage 2". That's a kind of more realistic independant testing.

BUt I think the torque improvement they claims are right : 5 ft-lb from the stage 1 (mostly given by the reflash) and 18 ft-lb from the reflash, injectors and pulley.

Yah the more I want to get the upgrades, the more I realize I dont race my car, then why should get the upgrades. I would love to get them, but thats money out of pocket that I would just be wasting to just pass people on the highway.

how would an intake void your entire warranty? i take my car to the dealer all the time w/ my aem cai and my warranty is still in tact.

some dealerships say it will void your warranty. i was told its all about what the dealership wants to do about it. so it doesnt void the warranty by putting a intake on your car?

Your warranty is with Chevrolet not the dealership....

The dealerships are ass holes, and have and will screw you every chance they get.

They screwed you when you bought the car. and they will continue to screw you for as long as you own it.

If you accept the answer that your warranty is voided becuase of the intake then your an ass too and deserve to have the warranty you paid for voided. If your smart and not an ass you would make a simple call to chevrolet corporate.

end of story...

my advice to you is to take it to a dealer that won't void it. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents dealers from doing that. my dealer offered to install my aem cai when i first got it.
