More new Cruze Coupe news

Here's some of the more notable bits from these 2 articles:

"GM North America President Mark Reuss has dropped some broad hints about adding a two-door and GM seems determined to beef up the Cruze’s image – both here and abroad.

For example, it’s started racing the Cruze in Europe and is working at giving the car a sportier image in North America. Whether the image campaign ultimately pays off is an open question."

"That could happen, as The Detroit Bureau reports. The newspaper says its has heard GM has greenlighted a two-door model."

"Such a car would generate excitement for the Cruze lineup and us enthusiasts. Don’t expect it to be called SS though; Chevy is being very careful about its use of that name instead of throwing it around loosely like it was doing a few years back. It does mean “super sport”, after all."

I don't really care if they make a 2 door, as long as they make a high performance variant.

Pretty cool, can't wait to see some pics!!

A high performance 2-door Cruze would be awesome.

6 speed manual, 2.0 turbo, and Brembo brakes front and rear would make for an awesome package.

Hmmm, I'll believe it when I see it

The only way I would consider this car is if it was AWD or RWD turbo 4 cyl. I am done with FWD but I still love the mpg's of the 4 banger turbo car. I've pretty much only owned GM vehicles but my next car will not come from GM unless they come out with an AWD or RWD turbo 4 cylinder(2L or more) manual trans car. The Camaro doesn't really impress me much for the money and a new Zo6 vette is a little to much cash for a car at this point in my life.

Well why don't they make it mid engine while they are at it. It won't be rwd or awd I can bet.

AWD would add a ton of engineering and parts cost to the car, so figure on paying 30K+, just like the Evo and STi. Not going to happen.

Not only that, but it also saps more power and ruins your fuel economy. You can forget the 22/30 MPG figures that the SS Turbo gets, you'd be looking at fuel economy numbers in the teens for city.

The Cobalt and Cruze are not meant to be all out performance cars. If you bought one for that purpose, then you bought the wrong car. The Cobalt SS (and Cruze SS if they make one) are a good compromise between daily drivebility, fuel economy, and performance. Hence why they make great daily drivers, fun yet practical.

Chevy will NEVER make a 4cycl AWD or RWD car. Soo bye :bye:

Well GM did have the Sky and Solstice before each one's respective division was discontinued.

They were niche cars though, not a platform that is designed to sell millions like the Cobalt/Cruze.

RWD and AWD are just not practical for performance compact car, especially with the new focus on fuel economy.

this was stickied? I thought this was a cobalt site.

And I doubt they'll make one again anytime soon. It'd be nice, but I doubt it. Especially under Chevy, or Buick.

I want a awd gmc car, like the cruze.

Gm seems to be far behind almost all other car brands for awd offerings...like Honda

Gti r
Evo
Sti

Most premium brands offer awd, not always a 4cyl turbo though...Audi, Lexus, Volvo ...heck even dodge

Sad to say I've been eyeing up a lancer ralliart...

People Jubba jabba about how bad awd can be.... I live where it gets -50 celcius, with a foot of snow on the ground, and fwd drive is a top pick for a dd, but awd would be amazing.

Acey 07-06-2011 01:23 AM

People just throw out "needs RWD" as if doing RWD as is simple as adding a sunroof or something.

darkdarr 07-06-2011 10:40 AM

i think they should just rerelease the cobalt coupe so then you have your cruze as a 4 door and the cobalt as there 2 door sports car. The dealer offered to buy my coupe LT at 12k because they had people that really want the cobalt.

also my brother owns a 2011 cruze 1.8 N/A with the 6 speed manual and it is really nice. GM did a good job with the car. they just need a 2 door variant and something with an NA high output 4 cylinder. I would spend more on a NA 4 cylinder then i would on a turbo or supercharged one

"instead of throwing SS around loosely like it was doing a few years back" ..OUCH

DAKINS124 07-07-2011 03:24 PM

This needs to happen. Getting performance minded youth to switch over to Buick for a compact coupe/hatch isn't going to go over very well.

As much as I like the STi's and Evo sedans, they would be so much more appealing as coupes.

For a company like GM it is pretty much as easy as adding a sunroof..... Only the worlds largest automaker lol

HickOverLOrd 07-08-2011 12:03 PM

No it is not. Alot of engineering and designing goes Into a conversion. RWD or AWD will not happen. The Cruzes sporty version will compete with the new Focus ST so just go off of what the focus has plus more/less.

wrong on both statements. designing a whole new platform requires alot of work and money, something GM has been having trouble with and GM is definitely not the worlds largest automaker, this year its VW after Toyota's recent recall problems..
