The Camaro doesn't really impress me much for the money and a new Zo6 vette is a little to much cash for a car at this point in my life.

granted the Solstice & Sky have already been mentioned - but one car which might fit your bill has not been mentioned yet;

Genisis Coupe

You can get it with an economical 4 cylinder, you have RWD, and it seats (at least in theory) four...

Before I bought my Cobalt I was looking at both the Genisis coupe (w/V6 & mt), and Challenger RT (w/mt)... in the end I couldn't justify either of those two*, and ended up waiting for the right deal on a Cobalt SS.

* = the GC w/3800 was roughly 10k more expensive here than the CSS, and already owning two RWD V8 cars, I was only looking at new cars becasue I wanted something new, to give me the illusion of reliability, while still having an economic aspect about it...

Well GM did have the Sky and Solstice before each one's respective division was discontinued.

They were niche cars though, not a platform that is designed to sell millions like the Cobalt/Cruze.

RWD and AWD are just not practical for performance compact car, especially with the new focus on fuel economy.

regarding the first comment, I'm presuming you forgot that GM royally shot themselves in the foot on that platform;
the Solstice sold out, and had a waiting list...
then they diluted the brand by creating a Saturn variant that looked sportier (mean while Pontiac's were the sporty brand and Saturn's were the softer/cuter brand)...

On the second part, I'll refer you back to my first comment here...
