Sister car: 05 Pontiac Pursuit

The Canadians will get the Pontiac version of GM's all-new Delta-platformed compact car before the Americans.
The Pontiac Pursuit will get the same engine options as the Chevrolet Cobalt, including 140 hp 2.2L and 170 hp 2.4L Ecotec 4-cylinder motors, along with a possible supercharged model<br>
The four-door sedan debuts first, after which a coupe will be introduced. The Pursuit sedan is set for launch in 2005, with the Pursuit Coupe following in 2006.

JonyyB 11-11-2004 07:54 PM

Needless to say, the Pursuit is just a badge-engineered version of the Cobalt.
For now, this car will go on sale in Canada only.

Here are some pics:

damn all they did is change the grill into pontiac and rebaged it. dont see how gm sells things like that. still think its a waist of time and money. with that money they could make the ion redline and cobalt ss even better. IRS, more power, more power and umm more power.

s113 12-22-2004 06:50 PM

The rebadge does help pull in people like me, who would probably buy a Pursuit before a Cobalt.

I've been wondering if the Pursuit will come to the U.S., and judging by the original post, it will. :)

EvenStar 12-22-2004 08:05 PM

Its not JUST a rebadge, the styling is dramatically different in many cases, personally I love the styling of the Pontiac compared to even the Cobalt. I do hope they bring it to the states.

rm25x 03-01-2005 12:49 PM

I would have rather had a Pontiac but its all good. I love the grill on that one.

osmose 03-01-2005 02:37 PM

i've actually seen a couple of these driving around here in Halifax, N.S.
i wonder if a coupe will come or a SC'd version.

i dont think so

im not even sure if they are going to release a coupe cause in all the ads ive seen for the persuit its just the sedan whereas the cobalt has a commercial for all sedans, coupes

davis98 03-01-2005 03:43 PM

The pursuit looks nothing like the one in those pictures. It looks exactly like the Cobalt but with a different grill. The interior is the same, only every pursuit I have seen has the all silver interior, like the SS.

The car in those pictures is the GT model with 2.4L and its not out yet.

CoolCobalt_NY 03-01-2005 05:05 PM

Dont forget.. The ass end looks a bit different too.. from what I can tell!

Yeah, it is just like the G6. The tail lights look the exact same. The cobalts tail lights look similar to a G6, but the Pursuits look so much more like them

The G6 is much more areodynamic and sleek than the Pursuit. The sedan G6 looks much more like a coupe than the sedan pursuit does.

Oh yeah, for sure. I think you misunderstood my post, I meant just the tail lights look the same, not the rest of the car. The G6 is one sleek looking car. I see a lot of GTO styling cues in it's front end.

Are you referring to the Cobalt and Pursuit? They look the same to me.

Check out the pictures for each.

Yup, other than the standard spoiler on the Pursuit, the two cars are identical from the rear. If you get a spoiler for the Cobalt, then they're 100% identical other than the badging.

philco_3 03-07-2005 11:32 AM

they should have cromed the grills to, like what GM did with the Vibes.

CoolCobalt_NY 03-07-2005 09:15 PM

The big difference is in the 1sb or the sport package!!!! """ the round lights ""

philco_3 03-07-2005 11:55 PM

when are these suppose to come out?

MikeSS 03-08-2005 08:01 AM

They've been out for well over a month now. Actually, I saw Pursuits on the road before I ever saw a cobalt. Problem is you need to live in Canada to see them.

rm25x 03-08-2005 09:44 AM

Uhh I think they have some typo's, they are saying 43 mpg hwy on the review for the pursuit, and for the cobalt "Four-wheel disc brakes are standard, but ABS is not standard on the base model." My base has drum rear brakes.

ridinonbagz 03-22-2005 07:23 PM

Well if you look at the pic they are the same... The pursuit has the same engine as the G6... but you wouldnt know that.. and i removed my posts cuz nobody really knows anything about them right now and i wasnt gonna argue about something i wasnt sure about. so i talked to gmpp today and found out that its the same rear end and engine along with suspension.

but yes.... the front end does look like the cobalt...

nothing is the same.... If everyone is putting up such a fuss saying that there the same car then why are you nagging about getting a cobalt when you can get a G6?
and dont bring up the supercharger cuz many people on the board bought a ls when they first came out.

They do share the same back end and both have Pontiac badging but that's about it.

Currently the one G6 engine choice is the 3500 V6 with 200 hp; the Pursuit's one engine choice is a 2.2 liter Ecotec with 145 hp. There will be a 4-cylinder G6 for 2006.

G6 info came from pontiac.com; Pursuit info from gmcanada.com.

ridinonbagz 03-22-2005 07:37 PM

Totally agree..... :)

going to say it again, i am glad i am not buying a car from you or your "dealer"

ridinonbagz 03-22-2005 07:42 PM

and I wouldnt sell a car to someone who dont know the difference between left and right..
:) "you stand alone"

johnkb8 03-22-2005 08:05 PM

yea real good one  I am not the salesman that says G6 = Cobalt/Pursuit, good luck with the whole selling car thing, you sound like a good salesman, and know a lot about cars

Ok, the G6 and Pursuit's rear end "looks" similar, but shares NO parts. Suspension SHARES NO PARTS! The only engine the two cars MIGHT share is the 2.4L ecotec assuming it makes its way into a Pursuit GT model. Right now however the Pursuit only has a 2.2L ecotec while the G6 has a 3.5L V6 and up coming 3.9L V6 and 2.4L ecotec.

I don't work at GM and I know this, it is all over the websites.

Pursuit = Cobalt
G6 = Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3, Opel Vectra.

So are the Malibu And cobalt the same car too?

ridinonbagz 03-23-2005 06:55 PM

umm. you cant compare the 4cylinder to the 6... sry.

and just in case you didnt know... the saab is a foreign car...

Skiboarder311 03-23-2005 07:09 PM

I'm diggin the front end on the silver pics at the beginning of this thread

it kinda has a taste of the SS front end

But i don't like tha blue one in the other pics

I didn't read the whole thread, But is the pontiac gonna have a S/C version?

Why can't you compare an I4 and V6? The definition of compare is : To examine in order to note the similarities or differences of.

Also while the Sabb 9-3 may have started on foreign soil it's a GM division now. The Saab 9-3 shares it's Ecotec engine with a bunch of GM cars. Infact doesn't the Cobalt SS/SC has the Saab FGP manual transmission in it. Saab is just targeted at a different car buyers market.

If most of GM's cars didn't share part, GM would have a hard time supplying replacement parts. One of the principles of mass production is that the final products all share common parts to make it a more effective and efficent process.

That is a Canadian review. We use Imperial gallons which are around 1/4 bigger than US gallons, so it is correct.

The U. S. gallon holds 4 liquid quarts or exactly 3.785 411 784 liters

The imperial gallon, designed to contain exactly 10 pounds of distilled water under precisely defined conditions, holds exactly 4.546 09 liters.

Well since THERE IS NO 4-CYL G6 YET OR A V6 COBALT then what the hell am I supposed to compare...you know what, this isn't even worth the effort.

GM is in trouble, and with salesmen like you I can see why.

And yes the Saab is a 'foriegn' car, but since it uses the Opel vectra platform (as does the malibu and G6) I guess they too are foriegn cars

Hell, the Cobalt/Ion/Pursuit use the Opel Astra platform, I guess they are forieng too

Yup, that is the Saab 9-3 tranny in the Cobalt.....hey wait.....the G6 is the same as the Saab 9-3, The Saab 9-3 and the Cobalt SS S/C have the same tranny..........The G6 and Cobalt must be the same car

ridinonbagz 03-24-2005 08:09 PM

are you f'n stupid... umm there is a 4cylinder G6...

A 4 cylinder G6 SE sedan will use GM's corporate 2.4-liter "Ecotec" engine with 170 hp. It should start selling in the second quarter of 2005 as an early '06 entry. The same goes for the sporty GTP sedan also mentioned above. G6 coupes should arrive by fall of '05 with several engine and trim choices, followed by hideaway-hardtop convertible models a few months later. For 2007, sources forecast the addition of a higher-performance GXP sedan and/or coupe, perhaps with a supercharged 3.9 V6.

Right off of the 2005 pontiac showroom website..

Then again.. i only work at pontiac..

hey and look... i lil more info that you didnt know..
