My dad has a black W/White striped 70 SS with a 502 . Right around 600hp . I almost put it in the wall powershifting 2nd when it had a 427 and a 125 shot lol. With the old motor it ran 11.7 @ 121, it will be interesting to see what the new setup does . It's been completely restored and you would never know what it has unless you see the MT drag radials on the back hehe.

I'm horrified when I see a modded (either mechanically or appearance wise) 60s-70s muscle car.

They're almost worthless compared to a numbers-matching car.

Sad ...

If you lose a race to one, say:

"How much $$ did you have to spend to beat me?"

Me thinks the value of my Balt SS might have just gone up a few $$ !

Eh, if it's a #'s matching COPO car, Boss 429 or a Max Wedge Savoy, you're right, but the people that have money already know where those are. I don't see anything wrong with taking a crusty old slant 6 apart and building a nice Hemi clone. Well modified classics often sell for more than the original would have.

Are you ******* kidding me ? How many people would know a number matching car if it was staring them in the face? You sure as **** would have much fun with a number matching car either ......blow the motor yada yada, might as well let it sit in the garage The only thing done to my old man's chevelle is a 502 crate and you say SAD? It had a rotisserie frame off and it is ******* impeccable ......horrifying .

People are stamping numbers on everything these days , you can make a number matching car easily.

HAHA 93 Z28s are slow as hell. Have you heard of the 03/04 Cobra or 07+ GT500? Stock for Stock and mod for mod the Cobra and GT500 dominates.

Yeah but it only took em 10 years to get something that would run stock for stock with a Z28. When my 95 Z was new i used to **** on 5.slow's easily. While not real fast.... my 6spd Z went consistent 13.50's which was way beyond any stock GT's and most cobra's from the same time period.

First when the 03 Cobra came out it didn't run stock for stock with the Camro it straight up destroyed it.

Secondly Ford didn't care if they could keep up with the competition because they could out sell them which in the end was more important.

Not to bench race but i've never been a mustang guy. All the 1/4 mile thest ive seen from 03 show the cobra anywhere from 12.90's to 13.4 107-111 mph and a sticker of 34000 bucks .

In 2000 my brothers Z28 was 24,xxx and bone stock went 13.0's And went 12.90's with hardly anything done to it (airbox lid) . So for 10 grand more ...... i wouldn't use the word destroyed/

First your comparing above average driving. Sure guys hit high 12s-low 13s but those were guys that could down right drive. Evan Smith took a 98 Z28 to 12.98@106 which is the fastest recorded time for bone stock Camro I've seen. With an 03 Cobra he went a best of 12.3@113. Thats almost .7 and 7mph difference not exactly what I would call a close race. Plus about $1000 will have you deep into the 11s all day long with a Cobra.

Price wise a closer comparison would be a 2002 which had a MSRP $26,000+ with no options. Still a $8,000 difference but if you start adding options like the SS pkg ($3,000) the price gets closer and closer.

MAN, w the exception of <70 fords (Fucked On Race Day) is a POS co. Their focus is and always has been economy cars. Sell 2 those that need a car, hence the quality is SHitty @ times. I remember those aerostar vans n Rangers late 80-early90's with electrical switches that looked like they came from Radio Shack. U know those, red square ones? LMAO. And TILL this day! Guy i kno has a 06 and yeah, they got that fancy modern take on the classic but, ever sat in 1? interiorLOOKS NO different that the ******* 06 Focus that I WON, FREE of charge and STILL traded it in for my 1st Coby! Also the steering wheel made of foam was deteriorating b4 his eyes! Its ALL bout GM/chevy 4 me. Only reason Mustang got so big is cus of Carol Shelby, ONE man carrying that Co. GM had so much creativity with their Muscle cars Camaro Chevelle GTO 442 Skylarks Novas BelAir Nomad SS Trans AM Hurst Z GNX and T-Type editions? RUFKM? World knows, or n e 1 that knows ne thing bout cars that the chevy V8 1 of the BEST engines EVER gOOD OL PUSHROD tried n true even BMW copies that ****. Way better than the anemic Flat Head all nostalgia, no potential. Fancy OHC from EU, but even they reach 4 the OHV when they wanna make SERIOUS power. NO REPLACEMENT 4 DISPLACEMENT, look under the hood of a ford-ALL WIRES N ****,more sensors than engine! LMAO GM got the Father of all 454baby and the block 2 end all (572)! Yes, ur little 4.6 is fast but its all ***** ass fuel mapping. wHY DROP the 5.0? Where your ***** @? THAT was an ENGINE. 90sevry1 got scary when it came 2 cubic inches. Shrank blocks, cut power, and made everyMFthang FWD, and started makin ******* TRUCKS/SUV's, which cme back 2 bites us n d ass. GAs guzzlin beasts like FORDs EXCURSION what? 8mg?? Ferrari v12gets @ least 12! I remember hearing Expedition owners returning their **** cus itwas killin their pocket with shitty gas mileage. Oh, and plastic differential cases on F150's? MemberfRESTONE?? all that cus they wanted a CHEAP ASS tire to put on their CHEAP ASS explorer!! Look @ what they did 2 the mustang image. I cant take it seriously cus of the 90's where they droped the 5.0 and allowed the aftermarket to make it look like a ******* ricer. U KNO wtf Im talkin bout LIL ass 16 inch multispoke rims bigass WINGS headlight/tailight covers even buzzy mufflers WTF where u thinking? ITS A MUSCLE CAR, U wanted 2 do that **** get a Civic! So they killed the image n the only thing they could do 2 save it was make it look like the 1 that put it on the map, and AGAIN turn 2 Carol Shelby 2 give his design 2 make it legit. Just destroying the classics like f up the image of 95-04 cOBRA BOSS Bullit mach1 ALL LOOKED THE ******* SAME!!

Why wouldnt GM just disband everything with the exception of the its performance vechicles and be strictly a performance brand. Its regular cars are terrible. Keep the Tahoe and Silverado for variety and keep the rest performance based. Cobalt SS, HHR SS, Cruze SS, Camaro Z28, GTO, hell do something with the G6 to ffs.

Like i said i'm not a mustang person so i was quoting time published by the mag's. You have to admit that it took them along time to compete with the 93-02 Z28's bang for the buck , even at 30 plus grand . Thats all i'm trying to get at. My 95 Z killed GT's and was a drivers race with the more expensive cobra's of the day.

Building completely uninspired cars aimed at balancing a checkbook rather than building a customer base, sounds awfully like Chrysler. If this company even lasts another 5 years they won't have anything even worth buying just like Chrysler is now.
Unfortunately, I agree. I've been loyal to GM all my life...it's a shame to see it going down the crapper. All that's going to be left are hybrids for yuppies, SUV's for soccer moms, and bland sedans for people who want to have a car exactly like their neighbor's. With no performance models like the SS and V...the only offerings are going to be pretty boring. (With the exception of the Camaro...that thing's wicked).

Because regular cars probably make up over 95% of the sales.

agreed 100 percent

GMs decision to cut compact sports model like the SS Cobalt was a big mistake, not everyone can afford a corvette. I liked the SS cobalts, I hope GM come back to it senses and builds decent proper cars, so all these import fanbois who live putting down and spitting on American industry can learn a lesson in humility.

I say dont worry about it. GM will have the everyday car, such as the Cruze, and HHR.if people want the SS version, they will buy the parts with the money they didnt spend buying it from GM. take the cobalt for example. the LS and a LT. the people that want them to be more of a sports car, put superchargers and turbo chargers in it. spend 15,000 on a non SS, and then spend 3000-4000 for the supercharger or turbo plus all of the needed parts. ex manifold, exhaust, ect. or spend 20,000 on the SS.

point is, GM will continue to produce the base car, and people will continue to build the "SS" version. And who knows, maybe GM will produce the stage upgrade kits for them, only difference is, you will have to take it somewhere or do it your self, instead of it coming on the car. people are going to do it, and we all know it
