"SS" and "V" Series Vehicles Disbanded
I don't know the breakout in the turbo but I guarantee its less than 1%
It's either do this or no GM? Personally I would rather still have cadillac's and corvettes in 20 years when I can afford them then see them pump money into a these cars that no one is buying now anyway.
We are in downturn, with high gas prices... guess what is gonna sell? the Cobalt XFE! so applaud them, maybe this will keep the Cobalt around a little longer then originally planned and in a few years maybe the re-release a nasty SS Balt.
hmm
what gm needs to do is bring this over here
bring this whole line of vehicles over here http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/vxr/ind...#/cars/vectra/

You realize that in just the cobalts that 97% of all cobalts sold were 2.2's, 2.5% were 2.4's, and .5% were 2.0 SS/SC's?

Basically, if you have ANY special Cobalt (2.4 or 2.0), it's not like they're worth gobs of money, but they are "special" cars since they're low production.. Especially the '06 SS 2.4.. I think '06 was the only year of the 2.4 being called the SS, correct..?
See my CSS.net name?

i must say that this really sux! I dont know about you guys, but here in MI, we need those SUV's and trucks just to be able to get around in the winter. Hell, the whole reason I got my suburban is cause I kept getting stuck in the snow with my cobalt ss.
SS/NA about 15K total produced 06-07
SS/TC 2-year run but numbers not available.
Sport 2.4 7% of 08 Cobalt production -- only year made...rarest Cobalts...
What a tragedy -- especially after they'd just finished cleaning up the SS brand.
I personally feel this is a mistake. While performance cars are never going to be 'top sellers,' they aren't meant to be. They're there to get people into showrooms, to be an institution to push the limits of a particular vehicle (possibly uncovering some new technology in the process), and for brand bragging rights.
What would GM have ever been without the classic SS? The Z28? The Trans Am? The 'Vette? Performance IS America. (And now I wonder, what about the high end Vettes?)
I just hope they continue, somehow, to produce performance cars. Let a private company produce some custom models. Something..

Oh, and all this talk about GTI? *yawn* I've murdered two of those already since picking up the Mazda. MS3 FTMFW.
Focus ST needs to come to America.

Then I guess your un-informed ass has never driven Grandmas Impala SS or Aunt Marges Trail Blazer SS.
What are you gonna do with a V8 FWD? Um.. Go fast?
Have we all forgotten how everyone made a big joke out of the Cobalt SS when it first came out? They said "What's next, an Aveo SS?" Come on now.
If you can't do anything with a V8 FWD, then you surely can't do anything with an I4 FWD. Get a clue.
The Impala/Monte Carlo platform have to be FWD because they are commuter cars and also used as service vehicles. Many people want FWD because RWD sucks in the snow. Sorry, us from the north need to worry about winter.
There IS more to life than driving really REALLY fast you know..
If you want to be really technical, the original Impala SS was slow as ****. It was a trim package, not an engine package. It gave you a floor shifter and badges.

I am not the only one that feels this way
"Chevy has ruined a lot of names and titles in its day, but none so brutally as the SS nameplate. Once upon a time, SS meant V8 powered, rear wheel drive, tire melting fun. Nowadays, the 2007 Chevrolet Impala is the closest we get. Chevy did decide to throw a V8 under the hood ( after the embarrassment that was the supercharged V6 Impala SS of recent years ). Unfortunately, Chevy still decides to throw the power at the wrong set of wheels. There is never a time when V8 goes with FWD. Never, ever. V8 = RWD, or V8 = AWD/ 4WD ; there never need to be any exceptions.
As if the whole FWD thing wasnt bad enough, theres the fantastically bland styling of the Impala SS. There isnt really a whole lot to say about the styling, because there just isnt much going on there. Nothing about the car says Supersport. Nothing at all. I look at it, I want to fall asleep. Thats all I have to say about that. Does the performance make up for the strikes against the 2007 Impala SS? "
i was right next to a impalla ss (last model they putout) in my stock supercharged cobalt...... they sucked
Weren't the Northstars that Caddy made FWD V8s? Albiet not marketed for performance. I think the performance division will be back. If they are going to remain competitive in other performance markets, its a must. As for the Yenko being revived, how about the ZR1's long lost cousin- the Camaro ZL-1?
You do have to remember that the Impala is a heavy-weight American car. Of course it's not gonna be a damn Ferrari. But neither was the '96 Impala SS that everyone seems to love so much.
And what is wrong with the L67 supercharged V6? That motor is decent from the factory, and with very little, becomes a nasty ass set-up.
And you wonder why everyone makes fun of GM. Their own customers make fun of their cars.
