06' Cobalt SS vs. 06' Ford Focus ST

I've read a lot of reviews but I want peoples opinions....Whats the best to you and why? This will help determine what car I buy. It's between those two.

Thanks,
Aaron D.

Well from a performance standpoint, the ST is a bit lighter, but only has 160HP. The SS 2.4L is a tad heavier and has 171 HP, a better suspension, and is better looking (in my opinion).

I'd say SS 2.4L, but I am biased. You'd never catch me dead in a Ford.

their not even in the same class.....I can't even begin to compare them unless you're talking about the 2.4 SS where in that case I would still take the SS for it's styling and the focus has somewhat of a bad rep.

I am talking about the 2.4. I don't think I can afford the ss/sc. What are the prices for an 06' ss/sc?

Thanks,
Aaron

Thumbs up

the st has a 150hp with 145tq the 2.3l responds very well to mods with I/H/E they put down better numbers than the svt focus.IMO the intierior is better quality in the focus but i would still go with the SS the 2.4l still has the edge.

lol, i think your looking at a pretty much pro Cobalt review. Thats y ppl on are here after all.. they own cobalts and are gunna be a lil prob Coabt.

But hey, my $.02.... The SS. As far as i know, it weighs a little more, but the suspension is better, more refined, and has more HP. + then U can come on here and join the best Forum on the net with sumin else every 1 has! Get the SS

Why would you even CONSIDER buying a focus ... esp. compared to a Cobalt.

My opinion, forgo the focus. Get a Mazda3 S-model. Same engine and drivetrain with superior looks to the ST. I drive an Mz3s 5-door and love it. Not as quick as my old ss/sc tho.....but between the focus and cobalt....go cobalt.

The ST has good suspension because they took the parts from the SVT Focus, and put it on the ST, after production of the SVTF stopped.

I would go for the Cobalt..The ST brings back some memories...When I was car shopping, I was looking at the ST too..The guy at the ford dealer said that the ST was a high performance sports car..and tried to push a Taurus at me..Haha, I just laughed in his face..

As far as suspension, the SS 2.4L uses pieces off the SS/SC! The SS 2.4L surely handles as well as a Focus ST! I highly doubt even an SVT Focus managed 0.89g on the skidpad, or a 69.0MPH average slalom speed. I'd need to see test numbers to believe that it would outhandle an SS/SC.

The SS/SC has one of the best suspension setups you can get from the factory.

I don't know what the US pricing is on the ST or the SS 2.4L, but if they are about the same, the choice is clear if you are after performance. A 2.4L SS would drive circles around a Ford ST on a road course!

I drove a Focus ST and a Fusion two weeks ago at Egglefield Ford in Elizabethtown NY... the Focus is weak on the windup. Ford says it had 160hp, but i never found it. My Cobalt pulled much harder than the Focus did and the Focus felt like driving a bathtub through the twisties. Also, there were ominous thumps and squeakies coming from the car that I don't have in my Cobalt. I found that my Base Cobalt (on 15" Motegi's/215-60-15 BFG T/A's) handled better than this car... I was really suprised because the ST is supposed to be the replacement for the SVT?

The Fusion was nice, if i was looking for a family hauler. The lack of a manual transmission turned me off cold to it.

Six years after the Focus was introduced, I'm still not impressed.

Scott

Plus this is the same old Focus that came out in 2000. The Cobalt is a much newer car. Go Cobalt!

I owned an SVT Focus, and i can say that both the 2.0 and SVTF handle close to the same.

we have a cobalt and a focus at my house. cobalt looks better inside and out. quality and lines are better on the focus. focus handles alot better, but the engine is louder. We havent really had problems with either one.
