Lightbulb 2006 Cobalt SS

Hello All!

First ever post here on the forums..just had a quick question for ya guys. I am currently checking out an 06 Cobalt SS coupe. Silver. Sunroof. The works. Anyways, I was wondering, what kind of gas does this thing require? Can I get by with putting regular in it? Also, what about the Oil? Does it require synthetic or no?

Thanks in advance for the help!

premium gas, you cannot put regular in it, anything more then 1 tank of regular will likely cause knock and engine wear. and yes it also requires synethic oil.

If its an ss supercharged it takes 7qts of synthetic oil ans is suggested using premium, but if its stahe 1 or 2 requires premium fuel. If its the 2.4l modle its regular fuel and regular motor oil.

Depends on what SS it is.

If it is the SS 2.4L (Non Supercharged), then 91 is reccommended.

If it is the stock SS/SC, then 91 is minium, but you should run 93.

If it is a Stage II SS/SC, then you should only run 93.

run 93 if you can get it. 91 works just fine as well. but if you ever get it tuned make sure you tune it with the fuel you'll be using..91 or 93

Well

All it says is that is a 4 cylinder inline 4...I plan on checking it out asap in person.

But 89 grade won't work, eh? All we have here is 87, 89 or 93

then use 93. size and cylinder number don't matter. its compression, timing, air/fuel ratio, and cylinder pressure that matter.

89 is one of those odd grades. Mainly for those with cars that could not longer handle 87 without knocking.

Depends on which "SS" model you have as already stated

Wow same thought hah^^^

I run 93 here. Before you go gun ho and buy this thing, find out if its a SS sport (2.4 engine, LE5 I believe) or SS supercharged (2.0 supercharged engine, LSJ). Welcome and make a post if you decided to get the car.

First of all, now this post but the one for this one that I wrote, I meant to start it off with "so" not "do" my bad...final exam time, so my brain is scattered all over

2nd, its the super charged. So, premium gas here I come, I guess.

But what exactly do you guys get MPG wise, with a mild lead foot? Should I expect like 23-25 city and 30-34 highway?

your gas mileage estimates are spot on for what most get. if you have a lightfoot you can obviously get upper 30s even some get low 40s on the highway. avg is high 20s for overall gas mileage tho, city+highway mix with a medium-foot

and yeah, premium gas only
honestly though it's only $2-3 more per fillup, less then $15/month. small price to pay for performance

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome! I also just realize I double posted this same thing under a different topic, so my bad.

But I didn't know it breaks down to that much a month, thats not bad at all.

I thought the SS sport was only available on the sedan and the Supercharger was on the coupe only so that the coupe was only a supercharger and nothing else, no?

Oh boy...

The one I have been posting about, is 8900, with 75k miles but all the works, including (I believe) the SS embroidered seats...but is a two door too, meaning more on insurance (I am a college kid, so thats something to be concerned about)

But the other one I was looking at, a 2006 SS sport 4 door, orange, all the works except for the leather seats, with 48k miles, the price just got lowered to 9800 from 10800...

Depends on your driving habits and whether or not you're stock.

I drive spirited when not on the interstate with GM Stage 2 and I get around 24 MPG. On the interstate, I get 35-36 @ 68 MPH. If you stay out of boost a bit, you'll get better mileage.

The 2.4 SS/Sport is available in both Sedan and Coupe forms. The SS/SC was only available as a coupe. In 2008, the SS/TC had both Sedan and Coupe versions, but after 09, the sedan TC was dropped.

8900 is a pretty decent price for 75K miles. That being said, I paid 11988 for my Stage II SS/SC that had 42000 on it when I bought it in January 2010

I'm gonna assume you're making a crack at how hard it is to keep the foot off the throttle

It is not supercharged....it is just the typical 4 cylinder SS high output engine or whatever....its the SS engine that isn't supercharged. Thats all I know. Sounds like I can still get by with 87 or 89, but 93 is still suggested, yes?

the SS/NA (or non-supercharged version) can use 87 and regular oil
