2008 Cobalt to have a "CLASSIC" refresh look?
I was watching the news during my lunch break and a spokesman from dalmer chrysler and one from gm were talking about plans to improve sales. Since EVERY mustang in 05 sold , both companies stated in future refreshes of there economy cars( as well as luxary) they will be leaning towards more of a classical look. Getting away with the smoothness look of civics and so forth since that wasnt working for them.
Wonder what this means for the 08 cobalt and if it will be effected.
I personally LOVE the way the cobalt looks. its my favorite looking car in its price range.
Thoughts? comments?

you can't go retro on a car that didn't exist back then...
econoboxes and stuff like that will continue to build on new design elements...
I personally think that the new Civic is the best looking one Honda has ever made.
however... I do hope the retro-looking Camaro will be a huge hit.

All I saw on the main page was "2008 Cobalt to have a...", and I thought I was about to read another damn turbo thread.
Classic look, though? What, like a Cavalier?
I would expecting a minor freshening of the looks, but anyone should still be able to recognize it as a Cobalt.

I heard that the 08 Cobalt SS are going to have the Turbcharged Ecotec that the Pontiac Soltice GXP has in it, said to put out about 260-270 HP off the showroom floor.
Just something i heard from a GM Tech, don't know if this is true or not.

I think all they need is some touch ups on the outside and to redesign completely the inside. Chevy has never really made a good interior compared to the Civic's. And I wana c better seats since we cant have recaros and the colored inserts look a lil blah.

Chevy has already publically stated the corporate image they wanna convey with their mainstream volume cars . Lower volume niche cars like the Camaro , the up-coming RWD 09 Impala , Monte Carlo will carry "heritege" themed styling . Look at the spy photo's of the new 2008 malibu to catch chevy's new styling theme for the mainsteam stuff . Look at the 08 malibu grill , then look at the Silver GMMP Cobalt SS Sema car , the widebody one . While you the 08 certainly wouldnt have the widebody , they were probably gauging reaction to the front bumper cover grill work . Should give ya at least a clue what chevy is thinking about design .....hope ya like big grills .
Im not saying thats what the 08 Cobalt looks like , I havent seen it . Its jus a educated guess

I like the round taillights.

We have retro tail lights. Check out some of the 60s taillights that went on some Chevy cars. They look identical.
As far as the retro styling thing goes, I hope it's a fad and it ends soon. At some point the American companies have to move forward and innovate instead of dwelling in the past. I like the Camaro's new design but where do you go from there? Where does the new Mustang go after this? At some point do they bring back the look of the Mustang 2? Sleek is the design wave of the future but it looks like GM and Ford may miss that boat with the way they are going.
A retro Cobalt, would it look like an early 90s Cavy?

Ok... I look at the Cobalt as this generations' NOVA..... so... I would love to see some classic Nova Styling in there... the blacked out tail section... the rectangular lights ( although I DO love the 70-73 / early C3 tailights that are now there ).
Then again.. as stated... the car doesn't fit into the 'retro' design theme. It's made to compete with the Civic and such, and that might be a bad thing to go for.

Nahhh! Its supposed to be modeled after the 1982 Cavalier. They'll all come with a 2.0 carburated engine making 62hp at the wheels. Oh and look for rattles and squeks to return in a big way too!

I also feel the cobalt should stay as a new, stand alone design that will one day (hopefully) make the SC's a rare desireable ride.

Even the overlooked 75-79 Novas (the "Disco Nova") is slowly getting some respect amongst car guys. Its about time!

i wouldve made them take that right off. its not even straight with the trim. told them at the dealer if it had that ad on there they best be paying me for it. needless to say they left it off.
