if you have photoshop, save the images as quality 10 not 12 and that should drastically change the file size. quality 10 is roughly 90% of the image quality but with photoshops advanced jpeg compression technique it will allow you to retain lots of quality for prints while saving disk space. Quality levels 11 and 12 use less compression and are very close to 100%, roughly 98% of an uncompressed file (quality level 12) without having to use a different file format like TIFF but jpegs themselves are still not 100% no matter what you do.
