2nd generation cobalt

what would you all like to see most on the second generation cobalt ?

i wld say a little bigger body, lighter weight, more hp and torque, bigger gas tank and better gas mileage.

anybody disagree?

bigger tank for sure.

Bigger body? no. My wifes Saturn Vue is the same length as my Cobalt coupe!

Better turning circle
Better mileage--direct injection wold help and add a few hp.

6 speed

Wow that would be pretty difficult with everything contradicting each other.

I would say a less fussy ECM, more performance support, and an extra overdrive gear.

And perhaps a spoiler that doesn't restrict vision.

EDIT: Thought of another thing...a trunk opening that would match the trunks capacity!!!

Yes! The trunk opening is pathetic! The trunk itself is quite large but if you can't get it in there....

i agree, i love the awd dsm's being able to launch at god knows how high of rpm's is a weird feeling
When you just launch and dont spin the tires your smiling WAY too much
that and more power never hurt anyone

I would be thouroughly happy if all they did was richen the interior ....keep the design the same , but get all the plastic materials up to present day chevy standards , the Impala and Monte Carlo interiors look very nice . Use the new gen 3 spoke steering wheel , radio's , hvac controls and switchgear , change the backlighting to LED's like whats on most new cars now , if silver paint still has to used for the trim ....at least make it good looking silver paint like whats in the Saturn Vue which looks nearly like its real alumium . Couple those interior mods with a Opel Astra type headlight and I would thrilled . As for the rest of the car , I like it enuff to want to much change .

One more thing I guess I would wanna see , in the SS , is a another spoiler option that is not so obnoxious . Just a nice little old school Camaro type lip spoiler , much like the RKsports , but more integrated .

Seconded + bump the wHP up to the 260 mark stock to make up for the loss of power to the wheels

1. Projectors w/ 4300k HID lights.
2. Lighter stock wheels w/ real performance tires.
3. ECU that is not so sensitive and give CEL for just adding an intake.
4. A different sleeker, smaller spoiler.
5. White color available for the ss/sc.
6. A more common used bolt pattern.
7. Nicer interior
8. A turbo model.
9. AWD would be nice but highly doubt they will do that.
10. Lower stance from stock.

thinking about it more i think they should bump the power up a lot for the 2nd gen, make it compete with the evo and sti, doubt gm will do it though....imagine a 300hp cobalt stock! ok now im done dreaming

I find it funny how you guys talk about all these upgrades, but when you came to buy a 2nd Generation Cobalt, and looked at the sticker price, most of you would balk and complain that the price is too high.

Not saying improvements couldn't be made, but I'm happy with the car the way it is...

Then it would be out of it's price bracket. Also the AWD would only help launch and cornering, every other aspect of it sucks. (more drag = less power to wheels & worse gas milage, more stuff to break/maintain/repair/replace)

I thought of a few more.

Standard LSD on performance models (SS S/C)
Color options with the Recaro seats (the RL's had blue why couldn't I get them too?)
Fix the wheel hop!

I liked most of DC's suggestions.

im thinking of it as somewhere along the lines of the dsm...you have the fwd tsi...and the awd tsi.....so for those that want the awd option your going to have to shell out the extra cash but for those that dont want to they still have the cheaper fwd

Better paint, better seats, Radio and controls higher on the dash )I don't like to take my eyes that far off the road) and better workmanship.

Yeah that would be good, but expensive for GM.

If you totally remove AWD from mix , sorry it will never happen for the Cobalt line , "almost" everything mentioned would not make for a insanely expensive car .

A good arguement for GM and how they making a serious effort to offer more for less , is the new Tahoe . Look at how insanely better and upgraded the 2007 Tahoe is compared to a 2006 Tahoe . Yet the base price for 07 is $2000 LESS than a 06 . Ever compared base prices of a 2005 3.8 supercharged Impala SS and the LS4 V8 SS , how about a base of a 04 Grand Prix CompG and a 2006 V8 GXP Remember a couple months ago when GM publically said there prices were too high and they pledged to offer more car for less money over the competiton ? Well the Cobalts competition is getting good , time for GM make a serious effort with the entire Cobalt line .

I am sure the Cobalt will get a good upgrade and not be like the Cavalier and go on forever, unchanged. That was a serious mistake by. GM made a great effort with the first gen Cobalt.

AWD DSM cars were discontinued because total sales were really low. I think it was like 5% of production. If you count EVO sales, they are very low too.

I don't think a top of the line delta car (AWD Cobalt) should ever match the price of Epsilon car (like a GXP G6) adding awd and a much stonger 6 speed might do that.

GM is in quite a bit of trouble and has to focus. Limited resorces mean they cannot make everyone happy. Some RWD cars will be coming back in the next few years.

Cobalts already have a leg up on the competition, they come in 2 doors and look great!

For the second generation I'd hope that they WOULD NOT GIVE THE COBALT AWD. NO NO NO.

Just a wider body, 6 speed, and 20 more hp.

6 speed would be awesome
turbo instead of supercharger would make aftermarket accessories more flexible

6 speed, AWD, and the turbo motor out of the solstice, with a base hp of 260.... im starting to think turbo's are easier than superchargers esspecially after that pully swap....lol

im curious as to how much, if any GM underated the gxp turbo engine....you figure the SS/SC is supposedly only 205hp but its dynoing 210-220whp stock which with drivetrain loss puts it at ~240-250 crank (15% drivetrain loss)
