3 Years old, I can't take the NOISES!!!!!
It has been three years since I bought my SLOBALT, and now there's pretty much one thing annoying the crap outta me.
My climate control fan makes this ridiculous squeak. It kinda sounds like crickets. The only remedy for this is to run the fan on a speed higher than "2". I don't like to run the fan that high for a drive over 10 minutes, cuz it just gets to airy, and in the winter time, too hot.
When I turn the fan off you can slowly hear it wind down, and it sounds like the squeak is per-rotation of the fan. It's loudest at level "1", and a bit less at level "2". Around left corners it gets much louder, and around right corners it gets a little quieter.
It seems like it could just be the bearings on the fan, so I'd like to get in there and try to lube it up a lil bit. So my dilemma is I don't know exactly where the fan is. The noise is definitely behind the glove box region, so that's a start, but it will be much easier for me to access the fan if I know exactly where I'm looking.
If anybody could give me some sound advice in how to access the climate control fan, and service it, that would be great.

ETA: I found this thread https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...700#post700700 Which looks like the exact same problem, sadly nobody had answers for him either.

My new 09 SS does it, and my 06 did it.
I know a bunch of people with the same problem and GM never bothered to fix it.
Most dealerships replace the face and lube it some how.

have you guys tried to see if there is something that has fallen down in the fan blower motor? fixed my problem really fast... probably need to change your cabin air filter while your in there.
whats a "van" lol :P
and yeah i have the same exact problem with mine, i just suck it up and crank it to 3. lol. then when it gets warm enough i just turn it off completely and warm air still comes out of the vents.

Ugh, well its comforting knowing that this is a problem.... I guess. But it sucks that nobody knows how to get at it. I guess I could just start ripping off interior panels and try to find the fan. I'm at work till 5, so somebody try to get some motivation, and tear into ur car, and find the problem!
This is a Van!
sounds like it needs a lube job. sounds really like a bushing is loose or missing that is letting it shift around on the shaft, which makes it loud on left hand turns. id take down the blower motor and check it out

when you take out the filter try to feel around to see if there is a leaf or something that will be a noticable obstruction. there is many cases of rats making a nest on top of the filter.
If it continues to happen, you can get under the dash and take the blower motor out. have fun.
i guess i will post that again since no one really payed attention. its behind the glove box, just push in on both sides of the glove box and it will drop it out and the cabin air filter is behind the panel.

Alright, I changed all the "vans" to "fans". So most suggest checking out the blower motor.... OK. Just like a 3 step process of the best way to access that would be great.
2 techs took the cats (camry and tacoma became their names cause thats what cars they came out of) and no one knows what happened to the snake
I had this problem as well. It sounded like crickets coming from the passenger fan. It was actually the blower motor underneath the glove box. It had leaves and junk in it (Cabin air filter dirty). I got the blower motor replaced under warranty and replaced the cabin air filter and now its fine. im at 3 years 36,500 miles.
I was told you can open it up and clean the crap out if I wanted later on. It seems very easy to access. hopes this helps.

Recently took my car in for this and it turned out to be a bad fan bearing that was coming apart. They replaced it under warranty. Since they did it though, I don't know what they did specifically to get to it, so I can't offer any tips on that. The noise is completely gone now though, so that was for sure the cause.
I had previously cleaned out the cabin air filter and all up in there and although I found a leaf and normal dirt, the sound stuck around after I cleaned it all up. It would sound like you all described on Speed I. Speed II would make it go away a little bit and above that I couldn't really hear it.
