um, cobalt is FWD and it would take ALOT of money to convert it to RWD (if even possible)

Oh you could do it, pretty much anything can be done with the right amount of money and know-how...but it won't be worth it.

V8 belongs to muscle car, L4 for compact car.
Never try to mix them, its like trying to make a horse and a cat to have a baby
I got both and they each have highs and lows which make them to be leaved as they are

That was my opinion, as for your questions, if it is possible it would be hell of a mod !!!!

I've seen a company who drops V8's into Solstices but they are rear wheel drive already so it wouldn't be quite as hard.

The company is mallet. They use a vette engine, they also upgrade EVERYTHING. sweet ass car. but your right, the reason it's possible is because it's RWD

You would probably have to roll cage it as well since the unibody was not designed to withstand that kind of torque. You could do it, but it wouldn't be practical by any means. Hell someone stuffed a 350 into a CRX, so it could be done.

I think the cobalt switched to rear drive would be awesome, you wouldn't need a V-8, think of it as if a soltice-gxp and a cobalt mated and have offspring, you got the driveline and powertrain from the the gxp and the body from the balt, great power and handling the balts good looks. It would make one hell of a drift car too.

I remember a few years back someone did it to a 92 Cavalier, it was a ton of modification, they actually had to make the already oversized front end longer, make the tunnel bigger to fit the tranny and driveshaft. With enough time and money anything is possible. In a cobalt it wouldn't look anywhere near stock since you'd probably need a good 8"+ more length in the front end (just my guess).

If some one were to convert a balt the parts to do it are easy to come by, anything can be accomplished with a welder and a torch.

Use parts from an Oldsmobile Aurora, it was FWD, and it had a 4.0L V8 It would haul the mail.

hmm...a drifter 'balt driven by Reese Millen?

Those Northstar V8's used in the Olds are made to work with FWD cars, plus they are some of the most boost friendly V8s you'll ever find. There is a place that builds Dunebuggies using the Northstar engines with twin turbo's and getting them up to around 1000HP. I saw that and was like "Dude, what are you using it for? Motorcross in the desert? Sandblasting your house?"
