37 mpg!?!?!?

Anyone else getting RETARDED gas mileage? I have an 06 SS/SC and just drove out to Michigan last weekend (700 miles one way). On the way out I averaged 33.3 mpg doing 80mph for most of the time (had to slow down to 65mph for the last 200 miles because I got a flat).

On the way back I was limited to 65mph because of the spare and averaged 37.7mpg, and I really didn't notice any kind of tailwind anytime I was out of the car. I usually get around 32 on the highway and around 27 around town.

If I keep it around 65 mph then I get around 39 mpg. I drive a 2.4 though.

40.4 is the highest I've seen on a smaller highway going no faster than 55. When you keep the speed down to 65 or below you can get some insane mileage in the SS/SC.

Mine's never been off by more than .3-.5mpg +/-. What the DIC says is usually pretty much dead on for what I'm actually getting per tank. Short term, no, it's not right, cause it doesn't have enough time to get an accurate average, but per tank or even per half tank it's usually pretty damn accurate.

Drove to Chicago and back to Six Flags=full tank of gas...Right before I left I got gas and reset the MPG gauge....98% was on the highway....Got home and it red 42.6 MPG...420 total miles and my low fuel light just turned on so I had prolly another 30-35 miles to go...Represent for the 2.2 baby...

can't get over 22? Man you must be getting on it hard... or running the A/C a lot.

I drive about 30 miles per day in city traffic... and get 27-28MPG.

These cars can get really awesome mileage thanks to the small displacement of the engine. When you're not in the boost... you get good mileage.

mileage will definately go up once you're broken in... also, get an intake or do an airbox mod... it'll net you some MPG gains.

its actually kind of entertaining becuase if you keep the car out of boost it gets damn good mileage, but after stage 2 it seemed like i could almost watch the gas gauge drop as i went WOT

Ive found that the DIC is accurate IF you reset everything at each fill-up (including your MPG). Its been pretty much dead on for me atleast (within .5 mpg).

same and when I experienced this it was in the high country though the high country in arizona isn't very high. Gas brand plays a HUGE role in the MPG you will get. I know some people get 93 octane but regardless of the power you get that doesn't mean it is the best for MPG. Top tier only for me and road trips see 36+ consistantly at about 75~80 mph while on cruise and depending on road grade levels and elevation

Haha. I was thinking exactly the same thing. I usually go granny shifting the thing around town, trying to keep it out of boost. If you do that, you can get really great gas mileage, but the car feels slow as hell. Now that I put Stage 1 on, and the 2.8", its hard to keep it out of boost even with minimal throttle action. Then when you get on it, oh God, its terrible for the gas gauge.....

2.2l manual. The MPG calculator is always off either by .5 MPG or 7 MPG. I hope these estimates arent from the calculator. Best ive gotten hand calculating is 38.38 over 100 miles of hwy driving. I average 33.1-33.5 70hwy/30city. I drive it easy too.

does the cobalt SS 2.4 have a estimate fuel guage that can tell you how far you can get on your gas that is left in your tank.
