AC Recharge..??
Hey guys,
So, I was thinking the other day that my AC is iffy at best. I rarely use it, but when I do, it's not that impressive. Compared to the BMW's and such I drive at work, it blows. So, I looked into one of those recharge canister kits. Do those work well? I assume they can be used on our cars, however when I went to look for where it'd hook into, I couldn't outrightly find it. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place? Anyone have a how-to or anything on this? I'm on my phone, and it'd be a pain to search. The car has 75k on it, but again, the AC is likely only used probably 10 times a year.. Should it need charged yet, or does our AC just suck *****?
Thanks!!

you can buy the ac recharge kits, just make sure it has all the additives in it like sealer ect ext and all. The cobalt ac systems suck *****, from the factory they were filled a 1/2lb less than it should of been. so drain/discharge the system current, then refill the system with 1/2lb more than it says on the car or manual, and do it to the instrustions on the can. you will have no problem and it will work great, and im not kidding on the .5lb extra seriously gm undercharged the systems. used this before on few balts and other cars works great if you dont have a major leak, it will fix minor to small leask with the sealer in the kit in the can.
don't drain the ac system. IF you do, you'll have to re-oil your compressor. And a car from the factory does not come low on freon. Or system on take 16 onces of from anyway, so if they did, it would literally be half empty. Get yourself a gauge, see if your low. If you are, add some.
Best bet is to have a mechanic do it. If you use one of those recharge kits, you could easily over pressurize the system which will cause expensive pieces to break. Then you have to get those fixed and get your system recharged anyway, so it's best to just have it done right the first time.

I say this because I've never had a problem with charging to .9 lbs on any Cobalt. They always blow ice cold and do it more quickly than most GM small cars.

I don't know where you get your information on that one but half-a-pound overcharge on a system that takes .9 lbs to begin with would put your pressures SERIOUSLY out of range for proper operation. Are you using an A/C machine that doesn't compensate for the hoses or something?

The low side is the bigger of the two lines. I haven't needed to find it yet so i'm not sure where it is on our cars. you could probably just go to auto zone and ask the guy to point it out for you. they aren't supposed to put it in for you (and i wouldn't let them try either) but he can show you where it goes. they also have a dvd for like 5 bucks or something that's pretty in depth

Yeah, looked in my Chiltons. That is correct. The 2.4 has it on the front, right side. I'm assuming the 2.2's are the same. Sounds like the 2.0's are similar too..
Back from the dead, just did this on my 05 SS/SC with 81k miles and it went from just a cool breeze to a freezer with the Autozone recharge kit with the pressure gauge on the top of the tubing. Very happy with the recharge.
