Advice on upcoming warrenty Sunroof Repair

Greetings. It's been awhile since I posted here. Sadly, it's not a happy post. I've had my SS/SC for a little over a year, 20,000 miles, with no real problems. I was a bit lucky compared to many of you. Anyway, over the weekend, my sunroof broke.

I was closing it and POP. The rear driver side corner wouldn't close. Due to upcoming rain, I took the glass out and manually put everything back in place so it would close until I could get it to the garage. The plastic guide used for sliding it forward and backward broke off as well as right down by the scew that screws the whole arm into the peice that rides in the greased track.

Now, I put everything back to where it needed to be and got it closed. I took it to the dealership and dammit if it didn't open and close fine for 20 times in a row! They didn't want to bother to take it apart because they said it worked. I told them I had actually SEEN the broken peices and I'm shocked as hell that it didn't pop off or catch again.

Finally, they agreed to order me a new module. Turns out to put in the new module, they need to rip out the pillars and tear down the headliner. I'm VERY resistive to having this done.

I've read the horror stories on this forum of dealerships ruining the headliners, leaving grease stains over it, bending things etc. I'm seriously considering crazy glueing the peices back together and fixing it myself. However, it sounds stupid to refuse a free warrenty repair for this issue.

What do you guys think I should do? It seems like the chance of the dealership screwing things up more is fairly high. I had absolutely no problem with rattles, my sunroof button trim, or anything touching the headliner.

I'm afraid that if they go ripping it all apart, I'm going to have a stained headliner, bent brackets, rattles, and a sunroof trim peice that now falls off.

Sometimes I think I'd rather have a broken sunroof....

What should I do? Cancel the upcoming repair or go through with it?

i had the same exact problem with mine just about a week ago. i felt the same way as you about those damn dirty apes groping my headliner but it had to be done. they did make it somewhat dirty...but if you didn't know to look there you would never notice it. plus i work in a detail shop so i can always clean it.. i would let them do the work and just tell them to have it cleaned after they aare done.

i work for a company that makes headliners. We do not make it for the Cobalt. If they dealership does get it dirty, you can either take it back to them and make them changer it. If you decide you just want to clean it up on your own. Acetone and carpet cleaner should work fine. Just go a little bit at a time and where the dirt is it may fade the carpet.

Thanks for the feedback.

Alright. I guess I'm going to take my chances and let them do it. I hope i do not live to regret it.

I'm less concerned about grease spots and more concerned about rattles, the new sunroof not leaking, the headliner fitting correctly, nothing being bent or broken, and lastly, that pesky sunroof button trim which to date I have not had a problem with.
