After 500mi breakin...

How many miles did you guys have on your cars before you "hammered" it? Ya know pedal to the metal.

I'm at 505 miles right now and was wondering when I can start pushing the car, or have a race or two. Since my intake and exhaust are going on tomorrow. I'm kinda anxious.

Yea man, the manual states break-in for a SS/SC is 800 miles. These engines DO NOT require long breakin periods, I'd say with the less powerful engine you have already broke it in by now..

Giver er some WOT buddy..

So I guess the consensus tells me that I need to search for a G35 or 350Z tomorrow night. I know I'll prolly get beat, but I have to start somewhere.

^^Actually I did get on it pretty hard last night at 475 miles, but it was only up to 5500 RPMs.

x2 About 3/4 a mile out of the lot I was on it like a jockey going to the whip. Wheel hop? Oh yes. Like a bastard, but loved every bit of it.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Maybe I should hunt for something more reasonable. Any suggestions. How would I do against a G6? (Maybe I should start a new thread for this)

Your actually supposed to break it in like your gonna drive it. Vary your shifts because it has something to do with breakin in the pistons. Theres an article about it. Can someone post the link again so i can add it to my favorites?

Well my shifts during the first 500mi varied from 75% of the time shifting at 3000-3500, the other 25% was right at around 5000. I did have at least two or three times where I accidentally took it to about 5300-5500, but this morning was the first 6300 shift.

I was just asking, cause the handbook says for 500mi, no hard accel or decel, or taking the engine over 5000rpms.

I nailed it for the first time with 900 miles on it....sure enough i hit the rev limiter and the crank sensor tripped and the car died. Fired right up about 20 minutes later on the side of the road and it has been perfect since...

ur right about the engine being pre-broken in.... i read in an mag that its kinda good to beat in ur car at first so it frees up the piston form the cylinder wall thus causing less friction in the long run...

its just something i read...i dont know if it makes 2 much sense but they say that when you get or giver you car the first oil change that u have to look for metal shavings.... i cant remember where i read this. though
