Aftermarket Wheels with TPMS

Okay,

So I bought a set of some wheels off a fellow member, they came with TPMS sensors. Im guessing they came from tirerack so they are probably the same TPMS they mount on the wheel.

I get the wheels on and I do the stupid annoying relearn, To my surprise the car registered these TPMS sensors. Okay cool! I wasnt sure how well that would work. That was a week and a half ago. Today I start the car and get a service TPMS sensor system warning :0

I see that the DIC shows all four wheels as ---. I run around frantically with my tire pressure gauge since they are brand new Dunlop Direzza Z2s. They are all fine... So did my car just forget it had sensors or something? No dead battery. What could cause this? Is it picking up the wheel in the garage with the slow leak? I would figure the other TPMS sensors wouldnt interfere, especially if the car isnt in relearn mode.

Are the sensors bad?

Depends on how old the tpms are. Did you try the re-learn again?

im so happy my car dosent have those stupid things ... i would say buy a new set of sensors but thats going to require a remounting charge as well as the cost of the new sensors.

Is there a way to turn the sensors off and hide it from the ecu via HPT ?

I dont think so, since I'm fairly certain its in the BCM.

that sucks. Its a great little tool to let you know when your tires are low but damn expensive to replace it all when it goes bad. I know the tire place i go to usually charges like $5 extra per tire mount to put in the TPMS.

You can find the TPMS on ebay for fairly cheap as well. If i recall the same ones are used in most of GM's cars.

But you have to be careful on ebay, they only have a certain battery life and most you can't replace the battery (i swear Apple must make them...)

I didnt try the relearn again, I just went to work. I will try it when I get home

I cant imagine they are older than the ones on my stock wheels lol. Those work fine. The previous owner of these wheels I believe only had the wheels for like 2 years. Enkei M52s havent popped up until about 3 years ago.

I just found it wierd that it was fine for like a week and a half. I hate this stupid relearn process, you have to put air in the damn tires regardless. Its annoying. I wish the relearn was like the ones for their SUVs where you can press the unlock and lock buttons on the door or something to that nature.

I will relearn it again today, if it fails in a week and a half, I will buy GM TPMS sensors and toss them on. Sucks to pay for new sensors tho.. or ignore the **** entirely? maybe ignore it.

Ok so I've noticed something peculiar. Leaving work today, all 4 sensors registered fine. I didn't do any relearn process or any thing. After being home for a bit I went out with the family to go to the park and get ice cream... sure enough all 4 tires read as --- and the service tpms flashed on the dic upon starting the car in the driveway.

when leaving the park and the ice cream place, the sensors registered fine. I think the factory sensors keep interfering at home :/ The car is usually 30 ft or so from where I have the tires stored and it just started happening this week?

Thats weird i doubt that the old tpms sensors are causing it since you did the relearn and that should of made the old tpms sensors be forgotten but i guess to find out try moving the old tpms farther away and see if it still does it

That might be the issue, my second set of tires are not closer to my parking space, like 200ft away
