Stock tires for the SS/sc are summer only tires from what I remember... Not useful in snow at all.

well dude.. spent the first ohhh say 4 days driving on the stock rims/rubber.. Ended up getting a flat tire within the first 4 days of owning it (expensive tires), my 20's are cheaper. lol

But the DO suck. There is no way around that.. Take all corners slow, or you will just plow the corner.. Also leave lots of distance between cars... and if u need to make a quick stop.. Well thats just not going to happen.

Ended up getting a set of winter tires/rims cheaper then the 1 tire costs, so I did that and will buy a new tire come summer. I think it looks badass.. black car with black steelies..

Drove in snow last week for bout 15 mins. Can say tires suck in the snow. Slid bout 10-15 feet trying to stop at buddies street. Very little snow. Just enough to cover the street.

if indeed your going to stop in the snow the front lip will make for an excellent snow pusher, be careful of any high snow drifts you hit... don't want to screw up the intercooler.

You can get the Nero M+S tires or the Avon M550's in my sig. they are just as good and a lil cheaper. Only problem I have is that tirerack didn't balance them properly, otherwise they are only a fraction of a hair in difference.

The stock SS / SC tires simply suck in the snow. I went through light snow 2 or 3 times and it was no pleasant, but what do you expect? - that's not what they were designed for.
Depending on how much snow you get (and how much you want to spend), you might want to consider getting some dedicated winter rims / tires. Not only will they give you better control in the winter, they save your relatively nice factory 18"s from the harshness of salt and snow. You can get a pretty decent set of 16"s (15"s will not fit) and winter tires from tirerack for around $650 (mine were about $750 b/c I got nicer tires), but if you're looking at spending ~$580 on the M+S (134*4 + shipping), this might be something to consider.

Well I will get to test my car out in sleet, freezing rain, and maybe some light snow today if the weather men are right. Guess this will be our one and only snow/ice storm for the year.

Tirerack, in the recent weeks changed the size tire for the 16" wheels on the cobalts. They are now $15+ a tire... so the diff between getting the Nero M+S or the a Winter Package was close to $200.00

Also... the M+S Handle BETTER then the stock tires on dry ground. Cornering and much more grippier.

16's vs 18's

will using a different size tire affect my milage?
i have a leased SS/SC and thetires are TERRIBLE in the winter
my question is this, do 16 tire have the same circumference as the stock wheels?
i want to know becasue if you have a smaller circumference tire the speed guage will be off extra miles will be tacked on.
now if this is a stupid question im sure somebody will jump all over me but i didnt know so
oh well

If you were to goto tirerack and set you car info in...

It will give you a tire and wheel combo that would have almost the same diameter as you stock setup. The difference is negligible...

So you'll be ok.

so so

I still have my stock rims and tires on and we've had about 4 snow storms already. The tires are not too bad as far as highway speeds, it's the problem of stopping in the city adn the biggest problem is going in the city. I've found I have to take off slow from 2nd gear to get anywhere, 1st gear u could spin the tires till u hit ground and then go. But it doesn't take much to spin the tires, no traction for city but i've just taken it easy on the highways knowing what tires I have on. I get my winter tires and rims this sat. 16" forget what tires i'm getting Bridgestone revos or something along that lines.
