It's not gonna break. If you look at it right at the base, you can see it has two flat sides. If you want to protect the black paint on it, put some tape or something on the flat sides, then take an adjustable wrench, adjust it snug, and turn left. It may be tight but it will come off. The base doesn't come off tho, just the antenna pole and you are left with a screw sticking up. Find a cover and you are all set.

*CRINGE* NO! NO Pliers! No Adjustable Wrenches, that is how you ROUND **** OFF!

Use the PROPER size wrench!
The RIGHT tool for the RIGHT job!

umm... adjustable wrench was perfect for me. I don't agree with pliers but you can't beat a good crescent wrench for these things.

just take a set of bolt cutters to the stock antenna and super glue a vacuum cap to the top: easy, cheap shorty antenna

"Crescent" Wrenchs, or as I call adjustable wrenches, seeing as Crescent is a manufacture of tools like Craftsman, Snap-on, Mac ect. They are alright.. I use them if I have to, but I always MUCH rather use the right size combo wrench, with a preferance to the box end, espes if its something higher torque.

Yea, I grew up using them interchangeably. Kinda like calling all cotton swabs q-tips. I used an adjustable wrench on my antenna because it took no torque what so ever, and i didn't want to risk scratching it trying to get a snug fit with a wrench. There was more than enough flat surface area for the adjustable.
