Auto cobalt SS?
i was looking into getting an SS guage cluster 07+ to fit my 08 cobalt 2.2, i stumbled across this.. he states that its for a cobalt with an auto transmission... isn't it an SS gauge cluster? what automatics use these? i want to keep the function of the shift light... will this work?
he says:
Color : Black
Mileage : 49k
Tach : Yes
Transmission Type : Automatic
Vehicle Body Type : Car - 2 Door Coupe
Vehicle Interior Trim Code : 14B
Vehicle Make : Chevy
Vehicle Model : Cobalt
Vehicle Stock # : $CC966
Vehicle Year : 2007

yeah thats a sc/tc gauge cluster. 2.4l has a white faceplate that goes to 140.
i dont understand the whole shift light thing for automatic. why need a light to shift, doesnt auto just shift for you. i dont get it, ive driven auto cars and never noticed but ive only owned stick. as for the shift light on my car, it only comes on at 6500rpms right before redline

A few things:
1) The 160MPH Clusters are all for the Cobalt SS/SC or SS/TC's. Nothing else. None of those cars came in automatic.
2) The 140MPH clusters with the white faced gauges were on the Cobalt SS 2.4/Sport and all US G5 models.
3) The 120 MPH clusters were Base/LS/LT/LTZ clusters (I could be wrong though).
The shift light is not controlled by the cluster, but instead by the PCM. The shift light can be enabled/disabled via the Tech II. On the LSJ Stage 3 PCM, the shift light illuminates for the when the High octane Mode is enabled. That demonstrates that the shift light is included in the LSJ cluster and probably also the LNF cluster.

Yes only the 2.4s have the 140 MPH reading and are white faced and OP i doo belive that the shift light will still work. I got my car tuned and my shift light now works =p
wouldnt doubt its in the LNF

i was just concerned because i know this is an SS gauge which only comes in manual.. he says its from an auto cobalt.. i guess we'll have to wait and see.
thats strange.. my 08 ls has an upshift around 2.2K for best fuel economy and then another right before redline.. ive only seen that once to see if i had it because i asked vince to do it in the tune... didnt know my car came eqiupped with it lol

The boosted SS's have a shift light on them but they don't work. It might work for you because it might be a computer thing, not a cluster thing. i.e. the computer is what controls the shift light, so it'll come on no matter what cluster is in the car.

The SS/SC SS/Sport and SS/TC do not have their shift lights enabled by default. Only the L61 and LAP equipped ones do. You can, however, have the dealer enable it.
That being said, if you're in the boosted Cobalts, the best thing to look at is your Boost/VAC gauge. You want your vac number to be as high as possible when driving. If you get close to or enter boost, you'll burn more fuel.

umm. my 06ss/na has it on. but it comes on JUST before redline ^^^^^
u really dont need it, u can just hear ur car and know when it is around 2k and shift. thats what i do when in city to conserve gas, i get ~20mpg city (constant stop go/traffic and stop lights/signs) and 31mpg highway.
