AWD Cobalt?
the ecotech came from opal ( not the exact setup we have by anymeans) but it started there if i remember correctly
ECOTEC (Emissions Control Optimisation TEChnology) is a General Motors trademark that refers to a series of emissions technologies that were implemented throughout a range of GM engines.
ECOTEC can refer to the following diesel and petrol engines produced by General Motors:
Ecotec Family 1 and Family 0 - straight-4 DOHC engines produced by Opel Powertrain and GM Daewoo
Ecotec Family II - Straight-4 all-aluminium DOHC engines produced by GM Powertrain and Opel Powertrain
CDTI Ecotec - common rail diesel engines for Opel cars, produced by Fiat (MultiJet) and GM Daewoo (with VM Motori)
DTI Ecotec - diesel engines for use in Opel cars, produced by Isuzu (Circle L)

and im pretty sure it was Saab that created the ecotec series engines. Wikipedia has a great article on the ecotec...i think i remember reading it in there
Reading through the reviews i seen this quote that i thought was too funny.
"omg this thing is the best.. i put it recently on my 1983 Yugo and now i can do 4 wheel burnouts.. t.."
lol
You can just do the car to plane kit.

AWD saab has turbo ecotec and 6sp awd trans. It's called the F40x trans maybe?
ectoec to ecotec it should bolt right in. then there is the concern over the read axle and propshaft going where the exhaust would be.
The electronics wildcard will be control over the haldex center diff. IT's electric and swithced on and off by the BCM I beleive.
AWD coballt SS with GT30R FTW!

"Lotus Engine Expo 2002, Stuttgart, Germany Code-named L850, GMs 2.2 Ecotec engine family was designed and developed by Lotus Engineering to replace up to 7 engine families made in 13 production plants. Available from 2001, the L850 engine is a world-class powertrain and the benchmark for future 4-cylinder engines.

Ok believe it or not I was bored one day while at the dealership and starting loong stuff up. The AWD Equinox uses the output gasket on the transmission as the Cobalt does. That mean the bolt pattern is the same! Which in turn means..... You COULD rob the AWD stuff from an Equinox and it'd bolt directly to a Cobalt transmission! Now after that you'd need to cut the floor for the driveshaft tunnel and mod the rear suspension from either an Equinox or AWD Montana to fit the Cobalt.
In short YES it CAN be done. But would it be worth it is the beter question.

Lotus designed the Ecotec engine family (so he just made a guess, along with the saab guy)

But that doesn't mean it has TOYOTA stamped on it any place.
