Blu3's Post Deployment SS Sedan Refresh

Figured I'd start a thread for my upcoming refresh. The car is almost 12 years old (build date: 10/21/2008) 139000k miles on it, and driven pretty hard. I can proudly say the car has never let me down and never left me stranded. So, since the car has been good to me I decided to give back to the car so I can continue to have fun. My mods are listed in my signature. Still on the OEM clutch and stock intercooler. The car dyno'd at 338 WHP in October 2018.

Parts List:
Axles
Control Arms
OTTP Spherical and Leading CABs
OTTP Engine Mount and Upper Trans Mount
Moog Sway Bar End Links
Moog Sway Bar Bushings
Moog Tie Rod Ends
ZZP 3.25" Fender Well Intake
Cloyes Timing Kit (Wrong kit was ordered will replace another time)
NGK Spark Plugs

That is a great looking sedan. Did you get new control arms from ZZP, or RockAuto?

I appreciate the kind words. In person the front of the car really needs some fresh paint. It shows the milage.

Rockauto. Originally Rock Auto only had one side so I ordered through GM Parts Direct. Turns out GMPD only had one side and the other was on backorder so long that they cancelled my order and refunded me, So I grabbed them from Rockauto.

Any reason why you didn't grab the balance shaft chain and guides while you're at it?

Does Cloyes not make an actual timing kit for the LNF? Looks like the one you got is for the L61/LSJ. I havent looked into it so I dont know.

Beautiful car BTW! Wish I could find a 4 door SS for sale.

Is there an actual difference? I was under the impression that the timing gears had the same outer diameter and that the timing chains were standardized. I have LSJ and LNF cam gears in my garage... I could check.

EDIT: confirmed.

EDIT2: just saw the picture above... can't use the timing gears, but everything else should be the same.

I ordered it for my HHR SS over a year ago. I don't remember who I ordered it though, but now that looked at ZZP it makes me think it's not the right kit....
The part number on the box
9-4201S

Last edit here. Looks like it is a kit for the non VVT Ecotecs. Guess I won't be doing timing right now. Thanks for pointing that out. Guess I'll try to list it for sale.

Yeah the timing gears won't work. I purchased my kit all individually if I remember correctly.

other than the VVT gears everything else should work. I did everything on my car timing wise i could possibly get you all the cloyes part numbers if you need/want them

Check this video out really helpful

Yeah, everything else should be the same, just reuse your stock timing gears (I wouldn't trust phasers from a non-OE company anyway, but that's just me).

I just watched that about 15 minutes ago. I was just checking and the proper Cloyes sprockets are about 64 each then I would need new bolts for them. Is the chain the same? And would the markings be the same on the LSJ kit vs the LNF kit?

I could make it a sticky. Thats literally everything you need to do both timing and balance shaft chains with guides and sprockets

I see the list you have and it includes the balance shaft stuff. Was there a reason you didn't order the timingbtiming kit and the balance shaft kit?

I think it came out to around the same if not a bit more getting it like that when I got my stuff. I also didn't need the cam phasers since mine where pretty much new. I think I'm missing 2 items tho let me look around my emails again

Edit missing the 2 balance shafts sprockets don't remember where i got them from tho. But if it cheaper that way go for it.

I definitely just learned a bunch about the timing and balance shaft setups. I think I'll be holding off a few more weeks on that so I can everything and drop it all in at once.

Its honestly not difficult easy a half day job I took long because I was going to do my valve springs but the daily broke so I had to do it fast

Late to respond to this one. But yes it was the gears I was getting at. Everything else is fine. Good info above as well. I'll agree to someone doing a sticky on the part numbers and info.

Also washed the car today. Mounts will probably be in by the end of the day. Also still trying to sort out the issue with the Manual Trans Fluid, they are very slow respond to anything.
