Boys Toys

Im watching History channels "Boys Toys" and of course they are talking about hot roding. then they came up to our generation. they first talked about changing ecu's to make cars go faster then they talked about bolt-ons. They went to a garage in Cali and guess what they used as an example!? an SS, it had GM performance sticker on it. I thought it would be interesting to pist this cus it involved us

P.S. I'm a noob and only 15, so I dont undertand much at all about ecu's could any one explain to me how you change ecus to get better performance?

um, well...lemme see.

“What is the ECU?” – ECU is short for Engine Control Unit and it is the computer that controls all of the engine related functions.

thats a short and sweet explanation. Wish I knew a book for you to check out. The History Channel is a good start. Same for Speed Channel, Spike (weekends it has car shows...ignore the women until you learn about cars ) TLC and Discovery.

You can use flash programmers or computer programs to edit the tuning parameters in a cars ECM.

I love how the Cobalt was a Turbo Ecotech and had a boost controller mounted on the steering wheel.

Post the time and I'll try to record it on my hard drive. Maybe Jonel can put it in the video section.

that episode was a cut and paste from an episode of Automaniac... the show was a Boys Toys version of "Modern Marvels".
