Buying a LT with GMS discount. Advice?

I priced a Coupe LT on the gmbuypower site. I plan on bringing it with me when I buy my car. I'll be ordering one from the factory, so I can get the car exactly how I want it. I spoke to a salesman at my local dealer and he said it would take 3-4 weeks to get it, which isn't too bad.

He also said he could get me an additional $300-$400 off the GMS price. I was under the assumption that the GMS price was what the dealer pays, and that the dealer wouldn't be making any money off me. The salesman was still a little pushy to get me to come in, and gave my his name and cell number.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the dealer has the option of giving you a discount on top of the GMS discount, and they get reimbursed by GM. But that's totally up to the dealer whether or not to do that for you.

Also, are ABS breaks available with a manual trans? And, does the LT have drum brakes? On my invoice the brakes are listed as "Brakes, 4-wheel antilock, front disc/rear drum (JM4)"

If I remember correcly ABS comes standard on the LTs as do drum brakes. My '05 LS (same as the '06 LT after '06 re-badging) came with both standard so unless something changed on the '06 models it should be the same.

That's correct. On LTs, ABS and rear drums are standard equipment. Rear disc brakes are only available on the five lug cars.

The ABS with a manual transmission is a little sensitive on rough roads or during hard cornering but otherwise it works well.

The biggest weak point of the LT is the stock tires.

I can't complain too much about my stock 15's, but even so I'm switching to OEM 16's with BFG Traction T/A's. I think they'll give me better handling, plus improved rain/snow traction.

My advice would be to get the 2LT sport package if you can afford to.

Well, I'll be getting a fully loaded LT including the 2LT sports package. What kind of tires come with the sports package? Also, what do the "16-inch, machine-face, cast-aluminum" rims look like?

I can't quite afford to get an SS yet, so I figured I would get a really nice LT but I'm disappointed about the drum brakes.

Also, how does the 2LT package change the interior? The description of the 2LT pack says it includes a "sport appearance package." Does it include the silver trim and shiny gauges?

(Similar to this)?

I have a 2lt, the interior is similar, the area around the radio is silver and there are silver lines to the doors, the rest is black. The rims are 5 spoke, heres a small pic:

Like the pic I posted above? Does it have the titanium rings around the gauges?

Can anyone tell me if the 2LT sports package gives you better tires?

Depending you'll either end up with Pirelli P6s or Michelin MXV4s with the upgraded wheels. I've never driven on the stock 15s so I couldn't begin to tell you what they are like. I would assume by 2LT you mean the car will be fully loaded (I've never seen it referred to this way in Canada so I'm clueless) so to give you an idea of what you might expect, I've got pics up in my gallery HERE

I'm not sure in the US if you'll end up with the white-faced gauges or not...as you can tell up here we don't.

Excellent. That look just how I thought/hoped it would. I think I read somehwere in the package info that I'll get the white gauges, but I don't know about the titanium accents around the gauges. Though, It'll be a small detail I won't miss too much.

I just read a review by someone that owned a Grand Prix GTP with Michelin MXV4s. They claimed that they were poor performers in rain/snow. Couldn't find any info on the P6s. I wish they had the option to upgrade to at least the tires that come with the SS/SC.

I'll just wait and see what they give me, then maybe I'll get some new ones or wait until the snow season to upgrade.

Thanks for the pics, I'll be much more confident about what I want when I go to the dealer. Now I just need to decide on the color. I thought about silver, but then blue is my favorite color. Now after seeing what the silver looks like, I'm conflicted. I think I'll still go with the Laser Blue Metallic, though.

You'll get the white-face guages with titanium trim rings.

As far as the tires, both the Energy's and the P6's got less-than-stellar rain/snow traction reviews on Tire Rack. Just run them out and replace them with some BFG's like I'm getting. I have these on my mom's Z34 Monte and it handles like it's on rails even in crappy weather.

Those rings are a small detail, but I'm so happy they'll be there.

I'm sad that the '07s will be available with remote starters. It's the only thing that will be missing from this car I've been dreaming about getting for so long.

I'm hoping to order it tomorrow. Then it'll be 3-4 agonizing weeks until it arrives.

Not a problem...I like the silver myself (though probably somewhat biased ) especially with the darker tint. There is a laser blue LT coupe in my area and it doesn't look bad either...depending on the lighting it can appear more purple but still a nice colour.

As for the accents BlueThunder is correct you'll end up with them, mine has them but they're hard to see with the lighting in the pictures, the tint doesn't let much light in.

The tires themselves if you end up with the MXV4s will slip on occasion in the rain and I wouldn't even attempt them in the snow, I went with 15" steelies and the x-ice for the winter cause I didnt have much confidence in them as a winter tire.

Yeah, I think this winter I'll get some cheap steels with some good snow tires. It looks like I'll be happy with the stock rims at least for a while. I've seen some 'Balts around with some ugly ones.

I've seen the center armrest on the GM accessories page. Did any of you guys get that? I didn't see it as an option when I built my car on the website.

Mine doesn't have one, I think you have to order it seperate and add it as aftermarket. I haven't bothered with it but there's some on these forums that have...hopefully they see this and they can give you a better idea .
