CAI Filter Work
CAI Filter Work
Im intrested in knowing the best way, or the way you all work on your cold air intake. I need to put my HydroShield on and wanted to know if there was some tricky lil things you people to to get at the filter real fast ...
Maybe 5-10 minutes? Not long at all, most of the time is popping those little clips out on top of the grill piece and taking the damn nuts off the back off the bowtie, the headlight comes out VERY easily.
I dunno, I mean I can see if I have some pics, I think you can still use the same method only reverse it because your intake is on the opposite side. Does it still sit in behind the fog light?
it will not be easy that way. you CAN somewhat get to it like that, but with mine, it was just less agg to pull the fender liner each time. I only cleaned mine once every 3 months anyway.
but, yeah, the 2.4 isn't as easy to get to. hense, I bought an SRI

OK, have a couple pics:

You want to take a flathead screwdriver and pop all those little black tabs up on top of the black piece.
Then you have to take a socket wrench and there are two nuts on the back of the front bowtie - those have to come off. Then you can take the grill out.
Next you want to go to the headlight (should be the passenger side for you, driver side for me)

Take the bolts off that are holding the headlight in place, start to pull it out, unclip the connector that's holding it in and take it the whole way out. If you look straight down through where the headlight was, you should be looking directly at your intake filter. Remove and do as you please with it.

Well, then, disregard my entire last post, LOL. But yeah, if it's that hard to get to on a 2.4 I'd STRONGLY suggest converting to an SRI.
My honest advice to you, especially if you have the Injen is convert that bitch to an SRI ASAP.

Simplicity. You're not gaining any advantage with the filter there, plus a lot of people have said that a SRI tends to give better throttle response. Plus your filer would be right in the engine bay for super quick and easy maintenance.
Honestly a 2.4 is probably gaining like 1hp from having the intake in the fender-well as opposed to a SRI.
I had the Injen on my 2.4 when I had it... tried it both ways... couldn't tell a difference.

Yeah, in looking at the pic he posted I had no idea that's how the CAI for a 2.4 ran. That would explain in great detail why every single 2.4 with an intake I've EVER seen has done the short ram option.
my buddy has the same thing, said 4 bolts for the headlight and 2 for the mount for the headlight and its right there.... somethign to that effect, but not a hard process, and easier than takin all kinds of **** appart haha
How bout sound? i like lookin under the hood and just seeing the pipe disappear haha.

when i took the filter off of my CAI, i had rust spots on the wire mesh, so it MUST be getting wet. also, when it rained hard, the car was def sluggish. now that i have the K&N SRI, it is a lot smoother, and doesn't act up in the rain.
i do agree that it looked cleaner without it, but it's a lot easier to service now.
