CAI a sham?
CAI a sham?
The guy (and lady next to him) at the local Advance Auto Parts claimed that CAI's were worthless unless the car called for one. He said unless you're changing out your cams it's nearly useless.
I'm pretty sure CAI's are useful even if you're not going to mod your car like crazzzyyy...Problem is, no one makes a CAI for my Equinox so I was looking at the universal ones? How good are those? I also have a MAF sensor like some of you guys so I would have to find one with a slot for the sensor I guess? In the mean time I just bought a K&N Air Filter to take the place of my stock one, I'm almost at 40k miles.
What do you guys think?

Gains will probably be minimal, when you're stock. Never would've guessed it, but GM usually does their homework when it comes to intakes. i.e....why most people with the LSJ, like me, won't notice much gain stock. Our intakes are fine...just quiet the supercharger.
So gains are mostly in relation to sound. I've heard a n/a 2.4 Balt with a non-stock intake...sounds better. But as to gains, probably not much.
Same with my Redline. Didn't notice any gains, really, but it sounds wicked. Might've helped a little once I was tuned, and needed more CFM...but I doubt that, too.

LOL @ parts store retards. Don't listen to idiots or anything they suggest. It's best to ignore and walk away, or kick them in the nuts if you're feeling aggresive.
Autozone sells pipes that you can bolt your MAF into and use as part of a custom made intake. Make sure it's as close to the same diameter of your stock pipe as possible or the reading will be thrown off. And yes, CAI's work very well. It's usually everyone's first and most effective bolt on.

I just put the GMPP intake on my 2.2 and while I haven't dyno'ed it or anything, I definitely notice an improvement in throttle response and it seems to pick up faster, especially above 3K RPM.
Sound-wise, you don't even notice it during normal driving... but between 3K-4K, it has a nice growl, almost similar to a V6. Mileage-wise, I haven't really evaluated it yet... but that will have to wait until I can keep my foot out of it again!

Without a doubt. I've just talked to numerous people who were pissed when they only saw a few whp/wtq gains. GM, or any car manu., isn't trying to screw you over stock. Mostly they just want to quiet things down. So don't expect huge numbers, unless your stock intake is restrictive as all hell.
I have been known to street race once or twice, usually mustangs or stock civics, we have a huge ricer population who think just because I drive a SUV that they can beat me with their little 130hp V4...lol.
I've beaten a few Mustang's (the 3.4ish litres, not the GT's), 3rd gen eclipse GT's, all sorts of Honda Civics, and even a Maxima.
But ya, I really would just like a few more MPG most importantly. What else can you do maintence wise at 40k miles? Any flushes or such that I should be doing?
