can a 06 cobalt be fast???????

alright im gonna start this post up by just saying i had previously owned a cavalier, 4 spd auto 2.2 ( not an eco tech) it had a cheap ebay N1 muffler and pod filter hollowed cat , and a small weight reduction kit, and i loved it, good mpg, and a blast to drive, but it was slower than internet explorer

ok this saturday im gonna pick up a 2006 cobalt ls , 5 spd, i have heard they do 0-60 in around 7.7 and i wanna get that down , problem is i dont really have the knowledge on putting low compression pistons in there for a turbo, so i was thinking of a k&n cold air, borla exhaust, ngk iridium plugs, Jegs MAF sensor, and a tuner, but i dont know if any of those will really make the car perform any better, cuz ill be on the drag strip this summer against my buddies wrx (auto) a eco tech cavalier , and a 5.0 mustang, ( all are auto) and i dont feel like seeing as many tailights as i did in the cavalier, so if anybody knows what kinda mods i can do to the car without spending an arm and a leg let me know please, and like i said im no mechanic, and i dont feel like having the headache on learning how to run boost... so ya let me know thanks

Intake and headers is all you can really do on a NA car until you go forced induction.

Don't buy an 06 they aren't supported by HPTuners, unless you want to go with a stand alone. Also you can put the supercharger kit off a LSJ and it will make your car quick.

Our 4 cylinders only have a header, not headers.

06 2.4l intake manifold, 2.4l throttle body, headers, downpipe and cat back, and trifecta. Should net you a whole 20whp and cost you more than you want to spend on it.
if you want to play with the big boys you need to boost it.

Just look for a good deal on an LSJ if you can find one.

By the time you take a 2.2 and make it anywhere close to as fast as an LSJ, it will have cost you double, or even triple the price...

Get an SS. It may cost more upfront but if you factor parts, tools, labour, and improved reliability then its a no brainer.

i cant afford a ss right now, neither will i be able to afford the insurance with my age, i mean id love to learn how to go the the engine new cams, pistons ect. but idk if i could do that, and for money wise ya i dont want it to cost me an arm and a leg, but it will be an over time build, not something over one weekend, like i said the cobalt apparently goes 0-60 in 7.7 , which is a hell alot better than my cavalier was, i just want to get better power throw, and maybe just maybe get it down to 7 seconds,,,, and what i ment about the taillights is that i was outraced by my buddies dokota and grand prix, which was extremely embarrassing, and around where i live there isnt extremely fast cars cuz of the roads, so i dont want a car that can go 140 + just something with some zip and a little attitude, i priced the following parts
JEGS MAF sensor 250
Megan racing catback exhaust 132
flowtech header: 98
megan racing lowering sprigs 79
and thats all i wanna really put on it except a bodykit, rims ( cuz it currently has hubcaps , nastyy) , headlights tailights, and some little things,

MORE and less what im trying to say is I need an everyday driver that will get me from point a to point b, no super high insurance, not a million srt4s trying to race me, good mpg and something i can do stuff to thatll help it out, not destroy it like everybody seems to do with the ss ( no offense) itll be my first new-ish car, so def not something im gonna wrap around a pole

The jegs maf sensor will do nothing for you. Intake and exhaust is about it, but tuning is the biggest thing you can do to that car to make it zippy. Way too many fun-killing aspects in the stock tune. Too bad you are not 07+ so HPTuners would work on it..

An LSJ throttle body 1: won't bolt or wire properly up to your car, 2: needs to be tuned or won't run proper anymore and 3: isn't the best thing for a NA engine. Way too big. The typical recipe for a peppy L61 is:

LE5 intake manifold
LE5 throttle body(needs tune to work in most cases)
header of your choice(but I like ZZP)
downpipe of your choice(ZZP here too)
exhaust(but not an obnoxious-ass ricer exhaust)
tune.

The most important is the tune and JET modules are garbage. But honestly for those mods, you'll probably spend more than you want to. I'm speaking from experience here, because I've spent probably $1400 on mods that didn't even put me over 200whp

It doesn't go 0-60 in 7.7 seconds either. You don't need bigger injectors. It won't benefit you at all.

This man knows what he is talking about. I do recommend for the exhaust to find an LSJ guy near you and buy his stock exhaust. It will help wake your car up a bit and it won't be super ricer loud.

I agree the JET stuff is garbage, not worth the cost.
