Hey guys,

So, I was wondering something lately..

Can you "insulate" these cars any? Like add any type of insulation spray or padding inside the door panels, trunk mat, etc to keep excess noise/ vibrations / etc. out? Also, anything for the wheel wells? I'm heard people using a spray bed-liner type-deal inside wheel wells to minimize cinder noise and such..

audi's have carpet like stuff in their wheel wells on the outside. Strange stuff. Works wonders haha

 

I just stuffed sound damping foam under my trunk carpet, under the rear seats, rear side panels and the back speaker panel thing last week. I'm too cheap for dynamat or second skin but it works and it's way lighter

 

its a cheap built car, it will only get better with age lol

 

Yes. Second Skin, Lux liner, dynamat...etc. There is a large number of products out there that you can line your car with to eliminate nearly all of that.

 

dynamat works awsome you can get it in sheets or in a spray can

 

So basically just buy some insulation spray and spray down wherever you can?

 

i had been wondering this too, until i looked at dynamat and realized it would cost a few hundred for a couple sheets of that stuff, and could possibly not even work....so i ride with the windows down or the music up lol

 

I know there's something similar you can buy in spray form for much cheaper..

 

Ive debated having the wheel wells and chassis undercoated and adding sound deadening. The car is pretty loud stock wise with road and wind noise.

 

i would love for some sound deadening for my car. I put fatmat in my old cobalt, but im looking for something cheaper this time. A spray will work just fine for me. Ill put it in door panels, spare tire well, and probobly on the backside of all the plastic panels inside the car to help keep them from vibrating together. Anybody have any duggestions

 

You want a fairly dense but internally porus material. This is the BEST way to absorb/dampen sound.

 

what about wind noise??? anything to cut down on that?

Get a big intake and suck all the air away before it hits your car J/K...

Make sure your gaskets around windows/doors are in good shape.

 

I feel like I'm driving down the highway with my windows open sometimes because the wind noise is so loud, but they are really up.

 

ditto here, its way worse in my 2dr LS then 4dr LT
not positive why but the doors seem like they have less insulation and make way more noise then the 4dr's

 

I'm in a four door LS and its soooo loud. its annoying more than anything..

 

maybe its the models. i noticed the LS doors are full plastic vs my LT doors have some kind of material over the plastic, seems much higher grade /shrug

 

Just turn up the stereo

 

I find that it only amplifies the rattles.

Not just wind, but everything else. Squeaks, rattles, stones, bumps, etc. Basic road noise.

Would that truck bed stuff insulate? There's this stuff in a can.. Saw it yesterday.. Can't remember what it was.. But it's like an under-coating.. Would that work?

Would you suggest the spray-on or roll-on? And how thick would you go when you go to actually put it on?

 

Well since no one is actually answering this question and is just commenting on if they get wind noise or not, which by the way doesnt help any at all. Heres what I googled and found out.

Now theres ALOT of different ways you can sound deaden a car. I however am going to be going CHEAP. Cheap isnt always the best choice, but I am unemployed currently and im not insulating for a rediculous stereo but more to get rid of a little road noise and muffle exhaust droning a bit.

Apparently in your local Lowes or Home Depot you can pick up some Peel-N-Seel or roofing insulation basically. Apparently its very inexpensive and works pretty well to sound deaden. I read on one forum of a guy who put it in his door panels and it started to melt a bit and wound up a lumpy mess on the bottom, but then there was about 10 people who claimed to have it in there door panels on 100+ degree days with no problem. As roofing insulation I dont see how it would melt, as it should be designed to withstand the sun baking it, but If used id be careful and put it on the floor, trunk liner, things like this. Also called Weatherguard I belielve.




Now this is from the Scion Forums. Polyfil. Teddy bear stuffing. As you can imagine its just a cotton based substance and they use it to pack there hatches, or in your case, our deck lids. They pack it full of this stuff to improve acoustics as they say all that hollow space inside the metal is no good. This stuff is about $2-$3 at Walmart. Some1 commented about it burning easily, which was proved false as it is Flame Retardant. Apparently online you can find Polyfil Blankets which would be great for our rear speakers, and door panels. Never put this stuff too close to a speaker as it was said if it touches the speaker it could mess it up, and try not to get it wet as it would ruin it. So keep it in dry areas away from too many electronics. A Pillers, C Pillars, stuffed inside hollow plastic interior pieces, Maybe Tape a bunch to the back of it, whatever. Stuff it inside your headliner works pretty well, as im sure the Polyfil Blankets would be cleaner looking and easier for that. This stuff works well though, and is cheap.





Then of course Rubberized undercoating. I plan on lifing up my trunk carpet and hosing this stuff in there.

 

Went to Walmart today:

In the Sewing Isle. $2.97 a bag. Took 1 1/4 bags to do my trunk. Still am gonna stuff it all down the sides behind the rugs. Probobly gonna need some more.





^1 can of undercoating in there. Not enough. Gonna need some more. But I think it looks alot better then the bleached ugly yellow metal

 

Hmm.. That fluffy pillow **** is a good idea.. lol

But yes, I went to the parts store today and saw a few versions of that under-coating.. I'm likely just gonna buy a case of that and go to town around the car.. Door panels, trunk, under carpet, wheel wells, etc.. Anywhere not paint.. lol
