Can you remove the gold from bowtie?

i took my front bowtie off in hopes of putting CF vinyl on it.
well i thought maybe i could get it off with some floss.
just the gold part cuz i want the chrome to stay...
is it glued on? or is it all just one piece?

Curious about this myself... but I need to find a front Gold Bowtie first... mine fell off on the road somewhere! I want mine to be black or chrome... I'm not sure yet.

well i tried and tried. no luck getting it off. i half assed put the CF on. it doesnt look that bad. i really wanted to tuck the edges under, but i did my best.

putting it back on the grille was the hardest part. those backing things are impossible to turn with a robogrip and no light lol.

also...i think i bent some of my radiator...like the really tiny ventsl. just a little spot the got a tiny dent and bent...will that affect anything?

Mine fell off when I took out the whole thing. It is just double sided tape. I ended up supergluing it back on after painting it.

i seriously coudlnt get mine off. it seemed like it was molded to where the screw pegs were. thats as far as i could get with the floss.

once you take the nuts off the bolt, the whole bowtie should pull right off the bumper
from there, you can pull apart the gold part from the chrome surround
to put it back on, use 2way tape or super glue

Wait, really? That would be news. I always thought the gold part was molded right into the chrome frame around it. So you are saying it can be separated?

yes take a heat gun to it. there's 3m black tape under there that holds really well. the only thing is the actually bow tie is off colored it's not clear. that's what gives the gold look. There's a mirror like chrome layer underneath. when you get that stuff off from scraping etc. the chevy symbol is yellowish. I'm in the process of CF'ing my bowties and im discarding the original cover b/c it will make the cf look old dulled and yellow. I'm going to build up the depth again like the stock symbol using epoxy resin.

I took mine off pretty easily with the dental floss. It's held on with the same adhesive stuff that's used to keep the bowtie on the car. The gold bowtie is just a separate piece on the silver one.

maybe they changed it in mid to late 06? my bowtie wouldnt budge off the chrome section. the floss would keep keep breaking at this one point in the middle and on the back of i there was a little peg that looked like it was the gold part pegged into the chrome.

i was thinking. if you were to put the back of the bowtie on ice and then hit the gold part with heatgun or hairdryer it should seperate.

Heat helped me out, but wait, I didn't use dental floss, I used high strength fishing line... I did it about a year and a half ago and forgot... My bad.
