My car got mauled this year from the winter.. there's rust on my drivers side door, plasti-dipped wheels are peeling all over, my exhaust now has some rust on it. The poor car is taking a beating.

Anyone else in Canada seeing the effects on their cars this year?

Why haven't you been getting a rust protection? Mine saw a few winters and still is spotless underneath. Krown really does help

You guys out east see it the worst with liquid salt that's used. The stuff is deadly. That's why whenever I buy a car I make sure it doesn't come from out east lol.

I run my car every winter, but haven't seen too many problems so far apart from suspension bolts seizing up and being a bitch to take off.

I need all new fuel lines, tank straps, and a fill line. rest of the underbody is seemingly ok though.

Just empty 3-4 cans of krown or WD-40 onto everything underneath your car that you can reach once in the fall and again in the spring.... works for me, haha.

All that's going to do is seal the dirt and moisture in so if can't escape

Yearly Krown rustproofing and regular car washes that clean the underside of the car.
I tend to wash my car more or less once a week in the winter.

Minus some spots on the suspension components, few spot near the rad, almost none at all. Not bad for an almost 10 year old car with 141,000km... Guess all that dirt and moisture being held in by the krown I sprayed is keeping the rust out

Doubt it, but I don't wish rust on anyone. Did you put all 141 kms on the car or did you get it used? If used maybe previous owner did actual rust proofing, the WD40 is thin and gone after a little bit of water

230k kms. One small hole just starting in diver side rocker.
Other than paint chips, pretty good shape outside and under the car.
But I'll be the last owner of this car, so bite me Canadian salty winters.

Not from Canada but a neighbor in buffalo ny. Bought the car with no rust in August and I'm Already getting surface rust on the front lip of my hood. One side is bubbling so it's more so under the paint. I put rust inhibitor in the circle holes in the hood tho lol

I wash the car weekly with the under spray. What do you guys think of parking a snowy car inside the garage to melt, then repeat day after day in the winter. Think that would be worse then leaving the car outside all winter?

Doubt what? That I have very little rust? What, you don't believe someone can apply krown on their own? I bought the car in 2010 with 40k, so I've put 100k on it since I bought it. Considering the shape it's in, I think i'll stick to my maintenance routine thanks.

^ this , you can save your face palms while your at it Ra-Ra. I doubt your WD-40 rust proofing is doing much of anything to prevent rust on a vehicle. But don't let my opinion sway you, if your rust proofing methods work for you that's great, just never mind the lols

Results speak for themselves. I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest here. The OP mentioned that the winter kicked his cars ass, and asked how others cars were holding up. Mine's held up really well, considering I drive 100km's a day on a salt covered GTA highway, and just spray cans of krown in the spring and fall. He either hasn't done a proper undercoating, or it isn't an option. WD-40 certainly isn't the best option since its mostly gone after a couple weeks anyway. But its good for those little crevasse's where moisture cant be trapped. You just have to watch not to spray it on any vulnerable materials like certain types of rubber hose, like most lube's. Sure dirt can stick to it, but if your washing your car once a week or 3-4 times a month, who cares. WD=Water Displacement, not dirt displacement, lol.

There is a reason the makers of wd40 have a different blend specifically for rust protection in vehicles.

krown over wd40 anyday, all day. It's made to drip and get into those impossible spots. Go out and pay a bit more for krown so you don't have to re-apply every couple weeks.

I went with the black tar coating option from the factory for my underbody. Had to get them to re-apply once but it's free for 10 years. Krown everywhere else except the belts and components that get hot.

2010 with 171,000km. Light rust on the top of struts starting. But those will be changed around 200,000km.

My car is probably the dirtiest its ever been right now from the warmer weather. Went to try and go wash it today but there was like a 2 hour wait, so for another day the salt stays

Factory undercoating on a Cobalt? Sorry but that never existed.
