In the past two weeks i notice that when i turn my car on and sometimes the defroster on the car after getting to about 130* will have a smoke smell. Not a burning but (sounds strange, i know) a campfire smoke smell, it's sometimes a mix of that and like cigarette smoke.

I don't smoke .... cigarettes and don't smoke anything IN my car, nor does anyone else. The smell goes away after about 5 minutes of driving, and I do live in NY where it's been like 15*-29* each night. Anyone else smell this? Trust me i'm not crazy and no there isn't a chance someone's sneaking into the car and smoking lol

 

i've seen that before and if i'm not mistaken it turned out to be mildew in the heater core.

 

Check your Cabin Air Filter. Under the glove box. There are many posts about it.
