the 2.4 cobalts are nice cars....no one is doubting that. But i agree that they should have been called RS of LTZ or something to that effect.

That is very true. I think that magizine is a little off. You could order SS old school cars with automatic tranny. You could also order SS packages with small engines. The point is SS is just a badge for something special aka super sport. Having a SS badge has nothing to do with being the fastest car around. Its mostly about certain options and trim. SS is not always about the engine, it was not in the past and is not now.

imo Dale Jr. cruising in a Cobalt SS/SC

LOL no they are not. I just had a training class on the Aveo the other day and the guy that is over the whole Aveo line was the one answering questions. Someone actually jokingly asked when the SS model was coming out and he confirmed that there is no such thing in the works or that there ever will be.

i'm with this guy, i love my 2.4 to death but there doesn't need to be two SS Cobalt models.

bingo

seriously this guy really makes a very strong point and i am going to have to agree, i work at a dealership and when i first started working there i knew of the cobalt ss s/c and i thought that the "SS" logo meant that it was supposed to be fast...well i soon found out that it didn't hold much weight as the impala ss is a decent car but really shouldnt get the "SS" logo same with the Malibu...seriously its a malibue gimme a break theres nothing about this car that makes it elligible for the "SS" category

agreed %100 with this article

I agree with you and am on your side with this...It was not and is not about having the biggest engine for that model. Plus they forgot about the SS S-10 that was made.

I also didn't buy my Cobalt because of the SS badgeing that is no it. I bought it for the way it looks, the interior, the handling and the motor. I still would have bought it if it didn't have the SS badges on it.

The full size SS454 pickup had a 454. The S10 SS had a 180 horse 4.3:

it was mainly just an appearance package - came out with the new S10 in '94 and ran through the late 90s when it was replaced by the Xtreme. They're fairly rare.

You are correct, it only had the 4.3Vortech in it. And the reason they stopped making them is because the insurance was too high on them and the reason being was because of the SS badge. I worked with someone that had one.

I didnt buy the cobalt ss for the name, i dont think any of us did, but i dont think that any 4-banger should have the "ss"moniker on it, supercharged or not, the malibu shouldn't, and the silverados are not really fast at all. the trailblazers, monte carlos, and impalas are all fairly quick cars. but if chevy has some extra "ss"badges laying around that they need to use up, then they should build a real performance car that needs some super sport badges.
