Cobalt bitchers and whiners

My Cobalt is a fine automobile. Its had some wrinkles (as any car does), but in the end, it is what is.......and then some.
GM has managed to produce an "economy car" with factory tuned, reliable preformance that equals or exceeds the offerings from Japan.......and then provides a full "warranty" on performance upgrades from GMPP. Furthermore, the upgrades produce very tangible results and are price competetive with aftermarket suppliers. The S/C car was engineered for "all round" performance driving enthusiasts on a budget. The balance between handling qualities and the required torque/HP that a chassis needs to react, is paramount to anyone that enjoys "driving". $350 Pirrelis are not designed for "smoke -shows", nor is a tuned suspension or an LSD.
Engineers like "Heinricy" put a lot of time into the S/C Cobalt that we drive, and it resulted in less than 3% of of total sales for the model. This guy knows more about vehicle dynamics and racing, than all of us put together. Lets place credit where credit is due.
When I was 19, I bought a new Camaro Z28. It had a 350ci small block that produced 170bhp, and it was a complete peice of ****. It sucked gas, the interior (by modern standards) was pathetic and it handled like a shopping cart.
Switch to today; Econo car with 2.0L 245hp.........23mpg........and drives like a refined German sports car of only a few years back.

Bitch ...Bitch ....Bitch....Bitch ...Bitch........

X2, JMH...to many people just look @ 1/4 times& power numbers.....it is set up for road courses & overall performance driving (if you can drive half decent& have been to a track day you know what I am talking about!) The car is much better than what most owners give it credit for...probably read to many magazine articles& listen to much to import owners that think anything American is trash. If it only had a H on the grille how that would change the perception of it. Be proud of your Balt!

They finally build a car that can turn properly, and everyone takes it to the drag strip.....

I actually experienced oversteer, swinging the tail out while merging after a corner (G85), in my FWD Chevy econobox.

That is the main reason I love mine. It doesn't have the best speed in the 1/4 mile, but it handles better than most cars I have driven. Keeping in mind I can't afford anything expensive. I am yet to drive in any condition or speed (snow aside) where I don't feel very confident in the car handling wise. It really loves bends. That is the main thing I love in this car is driving winding roads. I have pushed a lot of limits with the car and never felt any lack of control.

i love my car to death, even tho it stalls itself out once in a blue moon becuase of its hard idle and crap, but its my favorite, i like to be different from everyone else, and everyone has turbochargers and i wanted a blower so i got it and love it, and while saving alot of gas im beating most gas guzzlers too

Hey Brother, Anytime your in my neighborhood, stop by for an ICE COLD BEER!

Honestly, this car suprised me. I researched everthing available and the BALT was a small blip on the radar; it was the last car I took for a drive. They didn't have an SC, so I drove the SS. ........I was sold.........seriously. What a great package. All it needed was a little more jam and some tweaking.........Bang .........The SC.
I love it.

You know what? Even little things like being able to say......" Timing Belt?" .........."My car don't need some stinkin timing belt!!!!!!(Blazing Saddles 1974).

Well it's sure nice to know that others out there....... really enjoy the true dynamics of this car. It really is a remarkable unit to drive hard, and yet it's pretty nice day to day.

It's true.
Japanese imports (in those days), suffered from really poor steel quality. There was an economic reason but I can't remeber the details.
I used to have an old diesel Land Cruiser (with no fenders..........well not much left anyway) and that sucker wouldn't die!!!

I know what you mean, after test driving a ss/sc for a day and borrowing it over night, then decided that i can't afford an ss right now. i am still driving my plain ls and it's nothing compaired to the ss(witch i love) :/ but the ls is still better than 80% of the cars on the road! so i still have it good for an 18 y/o

Nice write-up +imaginary rep,the cobalt ss now has the respect of the sport compact community, not to many 4 bangers mess with it,for price and performance,I feel I got a good performer for the money I spent.
