yay for a 3 year LSJ run and 5 year product line up and end. Kind of reminds me of some of the other GM products that had a claim to fame and then died. They didn't take long to kill the Cobalt but 20 years for the Cavailer!

I bet they can take any help they can get. At this rate, this might be the last tuner car they ever produce!

That small car for Lordstown is a RWD small chassis based off the Kappa chassis . Its called Alpha . There small RWD sedans and in no way shape or form a replacement for the Cobalt . They are intended for lower volume In the US , Cadillac and Pontiac will have one . Throughout the world , Holden will have one and Vauxhall may as well . And oddly it looks like Lordtown will be a flex plant , because Gamma is listed to go there too . Gamma=Aveo

The next gen Cobalt will not be built in the US , therfore no info about it in the contract papers

Odds are the "new" product will be based off of the Saturn Astra. It's a great platform... and with some power will perform nicely.

The G5 does need to go... it's nothing but a copycat car... I have heard that Pontiac wants to go to all RWD performance cars... which is good.

I don't agree with killing off the Cobalt name though.

That was the how it was being told before the UAW contract wrongy layed out GM plans for the next 5 years , and partly may ring true unofficially official . LOTS and LOTS of stuff in that plant schedule was not supposed to be known ...and if u read it further theres hidden info all over it . Lordtown will shift to the Alpha RWD and Gamma( Aveo and ???????? ) when the current Cobalt/G5 ends in 2009MY and those 2 have nothing to do with the Cobalt currently , but ( explain the but later ) . It will , on the surface , most obviously effect the G5 , as Pontiac is getting the small RWD sedan . Its not a replacement for the G5 , but rather a repositioning of the brand , as a niche brand . So dont expect G5 like pricing . The G6 ends production in 2013 and theres no scheduled replacement for it . That will leave the Vibe as the only FWD Pontiac .

And the stuff that wasnt supposed to publically be known yet and should clear up a little mystery about why so much has been said in the media about the Cobalt name dying without an explaination as to why . According to the Union contract , we are gonna lose the Delta chassis as far as the Cobalt is concerned . Going off info in those union papers , the Cobalt will be on the Gamma chassis which currently underpins the Aveo . The Cobalt name will be retained . The next gen Gamma chassis is said to be larger than the current Delta the Cobalts on . Interpret that as you wish , I have no info on the next gen balt . I can say factually say though , in all the info about Delta 2 chassis thats known , the only 2 cars being mentioned are the Astra and the Saab 9-1 . The Delta 2 is more upscale , is engineered for hybrid powerplants from the start and is said to be AWD capable .

To the comment about the Volt . Like the Prius , it is its own model with no association to the Cobalt .

Many things changin BIG time .
