Cobalt SS N/A
Cobalt SS N/A
Hey,
Are the Cobalt SS cars that are naturally aspirated (not super or turbocharged) good? Are they more reliable? Are there any advantages? Do they feel that much slower?
-Thanks

The SS/NA is a nice commuter car since it's available in an Auto. My knee would hate me if I made it work the clutch every day like I used to do with my Jeep. I didn't have any mechanical issues with my LE5/drivetrain, just the normal BSR's associated with all Cobalts.
Its about 70whp off of the Supercharged Cobalt and about 100-110whp off of the Turbo Cobalt. It doesnt have LSD, it has 17" wheels as opposed to 18", and looks similar to Supercharged but looks different than Turbo Cobalt. It has the low rise spoiler as opposed to the high, it does not have the same body kit on it, well it does but doesnt have the lips. It doesnt come with an MP3 radio, but some have XM radio, if you get the Pioneer sound system. At the very best, it has black leather seats but they dont have SS written in them. It also doesnt have the color toned interior.
There might be more, ill edit if I can remember.

Yeah if you arent looking for something fast its a good car. Also not being FI like someone said, there is less to go wrong. Theres better cars out there, as I find the interior horrifying..but if you are looking for a cobalt commuter why not get one with a 2.4 for some peppy driving.

Underlined - XM and the Pioneer aren't mutually exclusive. My 2006 has the Pioneer system (a must have IMO), but no XM or OnStar.
Red - Black leather seats? They have the grey leather/tan interior (with heated seats) - but the leather is an option, cloth comes standard on the 1SS's. And I'd rather have the heated leather seats in my 1SS than the color toned interior which always looked odd to me.
I forgot the best reason to get the SS/NA - they are available in sedan form which is so much more practical and much less "boy racer" than the coupes!
Bolded - Damn, then what have I been listening to for the last month since my radio can't play that MP3 CD... Or did you mean the Aux In?

Also, don't forget SS/TC's come in sedan form! And they are SO badass.
Huh, I was told that MP3's in 05-06 only came in SS/SC's. But, SS/NA's certainly dont come with Red/Black leather seats, ever. I had to buy mine from a guy used because Chevy refused to put them in my car.

That's what I was saying - you get the gray/tan seats/interior and an option for heated gray leather seats.
One of his other threads mentioned that he didn't want to spend more than $12k and finding any SS/TC for that price would be a challenge.
12k well get you a high mileage or beat to hell G35. And it will still get worse gas mileage.
As far as the equipment list I have almost everything the SC's have.
Heated seats
leather
mp3
pioneer stereo
on star
power sunroof
4 wheel disc brakes
Now what do the sc's have over me?
LSD (depending on their option level)
18 inch wheels
High rise spoiler
Larger front and rear swaybars.
More hp
Front and rear lips
Slightly lower ride height
Thats about it... and depending on year the heated seats may not be on the SC and they arent on the TC's.
Now honestly Im starting to love my 2.4 im shocked at the difference the few mods Ive done have helped! Im an auto and with the header intake and jet module im a low 15 car. Not too bad especially since im getting better mpg on the highway than I did when I was stock

As far as reliability neither my 06 LS or 07 SS/NA had any issues that needed warranty work.
Not necessarily high mileage. I've seen 50-60k G35's go for 12 before, and that was 6 months ago when I was looking. It could be lower now. And the G35 is a better quality car thats very reliable. Not to mention RWD, and many stock options that just come with the car already. True it does have worse gas mileage but 27-28mpg highway aint too bad. I only get 31 in the Cobalt on a good day.
Here's just a few around where I live.
11k
11.5k

My 2 cents...If you are not going to get a SC or TC version stick to the 2.2 models. 2.4 performance doesn't impress over the 2.2 enough to warrant the increase in $ -- especially the automatic models. I had an 06 LS and an 07 SS...the 06 LS was more impressive and $7K less, BUT, I just had to have an SS...

But theres more than just power differences. But even stock I was quick enough to take out stock 2.2 5spds and im an auto 2.4. For me id never buy a 2.2. The 2.4s can handle more power have better suspensions and more options. Plus I got my 2.4 used with 16k on it for 13k.
But due to its longer gearing and lower rolling resistance tires the handling and acceleration does get hurt. On the highway im averaging 32-33mpg at 70mph with a 2.4 auto. The XFE is slower to 60mph than any other cobalt model for the most part.
