Cobalt SS octane requirement

So this is my first post and I tried the search button but it wasn't working for me. My question is pretty straight forward. I'm currently kicking the idea around of going from my 04 Cavalier LS to a SS. This would be my DD so do all SS require higher octanes or can you run 87??

Thanks in advance

Forced induction = lots of octane.....91 or 93 = happy pistons

else

preignition = holes in pistons

Once again, a minimum of 91 is required, 93 recommended. I honestly don't see why people hesitate on buying premium. Look at it this way, at 30 cents per gallon more, if you buy 10 gallons, and you usually will not put more than that in the car unless you are totally empty, thats only $3 per tank more. Well worth it if you ask me for a high performance car.

I never ever hesitate to run higher octane in any performance car I have ever had.

People freak out when they see its .20 more than regular pump gas. Little do they realize its only going to be 2 - 4.00 more getting 93 octane.

Pay to play.

SERIOUSLY... I don't know why people are so cheap. 91 is the minimum for the SS. 91 is reccomended for the 2.4 guys fror optimum performance but it isn't required.

lol.. take it easy. The guy is new to the car, and possibly to performance vehicles in general. Cut him a little slack. This is what a forum is for..

Not true, back in the day my rents owned a gas station. They HAD to sell 93 octane at 87 price when they needed a refill, because they had nothing else to offer. Thats simply the only reason.

One of us might be misunderstanding something. I thought he was trying to say that 87, 89, 91, and 93 are the same and it makes no difference which one you use.

Or were you replying to his post... IM CONFUSED NOW!

As I said this would be my DD and driving 60 miles round trip to work I don't wanna spend the money on a higher octane to drive on the hwy. My play car I run 94 octane with a mix of 104 once in awhile. I like the looks of the SS and just wanted a lil more power for a DD. From what I saw the CR on these are around 9.5 to 1 so that is why I didn't know.

If you would like to see my play car, youtube "snakecharmer383" & turn ur speakers up

premium in the 2.4 is totally worth it, to anyone that owns a 2.4 DO IT!! you get MUCH better MPG's (because of the no ethanol) and a bit better kick, and that pinging sound that I seldom heard on **** dino juice is gone on the good stuff...

on a Forced induction YOU HAVE TO RUN PREMIUM

Assuming SS/SC:

If you're stock, 91 is minimum.

If you're on GM Stage II (For the SS/SC), 93 is required.

In Oklahoma.. 91 pump gas is the highest i can get. Thought about adding the octain booster to each new tank.. but that is so un precise. Does it even work? lol.. i have my doubts.
