Cobalt SS S/C LSD

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, Im happy to be part of the forums.

I am currently looking at getting a 2007 Cobalt SS/SC and have a question for those who have driven the models with and without the LSD.

Would you say that the LSD is a very good option to get on this car? Do you notice a difference in driving one with and without a LSD? Are Cobalts w/o the LSD a lot harder to launch and do not agree with exiting corners at higher speeds?

I am sure this one has been covered so if there is a thread on it please link me, I could not find it.

Thanks

Couldn't have said it better myself... if you can find one in your area with it... GET IT. Forget the color... forget everything else... the LSD is probably the single best option you can get... and it's very limited production in 07.

Get LSD. The ONLY reason not to order it is if you are extremely tight on what your bank/GMAC will allow you to finance. Even then, I'd remove other options before I got rid of the G85.

It's not that there is a gigantic difference between LSD and non LSD Cobalts, its just that there is no point in NOT getting it, especially if you are special ordering your car.

Thanks for the quick replies!
The dealer has a few on the lot right now. Tomorrow I am going to take a test drive, I hope to find one with the LSD!

Welcome to the board and like the others have said get it with the LSD, I have seen video of guys running there SS/SC's with out at Autocrosses(I autocross mine) and anytime they try to put the power down it just lights single tires up where as LSD cars just take off from the corner.

Where abouts are you in Ontario?

You're probably right.
By any chance did you take your car to the drag strip to see what it runs bone stock?
I'm wondering if there is a difference in straight line acceleration between the LSD/Non-LSD models.

I have driven one with and without the LSD. I only drove the one without the LSD around town. The salesman wouldn't let me get to crazy with it. I love mine having LSD. I can go into turns and punch the gas hard and the car just pulls out. I would recommend it. If your dealer has both, take each one for a test drive and see if they will let you have some fun. Then you will be able to tell if you want one or not. Good luck getting one and welcome to the site.

I checked the inventory for all the chevy dealers in my area - only found one Cobalt that has the LSD..It also has some more options that I do not really need which add to the sticker price. I wonder if I can order one with jus the LSD or if my dealer can find me one.
It's all gonna come down to price in the end though. I'll update you guys tomorrow after my test drive.

Till then!

Careful, those options that you think you do not really need right now might end up being on your "wish I would have" list later on.

Good luck though.

If it's any help, I don't think the Cobalt is worth buying without LSD. When I was looking, getting one without the G85 was not an option. Good luck on you search, I hope you get a great deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What "other options" are you referring to? There are only so many available on this car after the LSD.

Just got back from a test drive.

I test drove both Cobalts - one with LSD/Recaro seats and one without.

First drive was in non-LSD Cobalt SS.
Performance was great, but I had a lot of wheel spinning/hop during harder acceleration. It was a little bit wet out too, so surely that and the summer tires played a huge part in it.
Overall, I really liked the car - very fast, great handling, very solid, gearbox had a great feel.

I asked my dealer about the LSD/Recaro seats option and he told me that its not available in 2007! I told him I seen it on the build & price site but he said that GM removed it from the ordering system. I was pretty dissapointed...

The story does get better though -
Another dealer approaches me and says that they have a 2007 Cobalt SS/SC WITH LSD and Recaro Seats! He said that although GM did not include this option in 2007 a few models were still released with it! He handed me the keys and I took it out for a spin - I love the Recaro seats, big difference. The LSD also helped out during harder acceleration.

So, they have the car I want with the features I want. The only downside is that its a Demo so it has 6000 kms on it, it was a dealer driven car. I also noticed a ding in the rear panel which I pointed out to the dealer.

They said that since its a demo they will drop the price and obviously will have to fix the ding in the rear. On Monday I am getting the lease pricing figured out and if the price is right I will be driving a 2007 Laser Blue Cobalt SS/SC!

I could be wrong...It might just be the LSD option the added to the sticker price.

Definitely.
I am a bit concerned because it is a demo. Even though I am leasing and it has barely any mileage, I don't want to get in a car that will present many future trips to the service centre.

So I figure these are my choices -

A) Get the demo Cobalt with LSD & Recaro seats. It has 6,000kms on it so I can get the dealer to knock the price down. The downside to this is that this car has been driven for a few months by a dealer and I don't want to find anything else wrong with it after picking it up. Even though the dealer will say they are going to do a thorough inspection of the car, you never know...
The upside to this is that this is the only 2007 I will be able to find with LSD & Recaro seats. It also comes in a colour I really like - Laser Blue.

B) Get a brand new Cobalt and have a little more peace of mind. It will not have the LSD & Recaro Seats which are both options I really want. I know I would probably miss them in the long run, but the car won't be a demo.

Any thoughts?

6000 KM's for a demo is alot. Probably pretty "enthusiastic" KM's at that. If it were me I would go new.
I ordered mine from a dealer. Had to wait for 3 months while it was built but I got the options I wanted and deleted the ones I didn't.
Or just keep looking at other dealers, the one you want is most likely out there.

LSD and recaros are out there. there aren't many they only made them for a month or two at the beginning of the model year and then stopped because the recaros didn't comply with some new government seat regulation. so if you go on chevy's website and do a search for them at dealers within' a certain area you can see whats out there. also you can have the dealer search other local dealers for the exact car you want and they can dealer trade for the car.
