Cobalt Ss S/c Roll Bar
Cobalt Ss S/c Roll Bar
Sorry to post this here but there is no safety section and I don't think this qualifies as an "appearance" post (even though roll bars certainly look cool
).
Anyway, I am thinking of getting a rollbar. I am not eager to add weight to the car but if it makes me safer...well I can live with running 0.1 seconds slower. Does anyone have them/pictures of it? Where is it welded(?). What kind of tubing should I ask for?
I am in Toronto so anyone who has em in T.O. please let me know where you got em.
Any ideas/advice will be greatly appreciated! Only thing I think might be a problem is the side curtain airbags I have. don't want the r/bar to interfere with the side a/bags should they deploy in an accident....
thx

I don't know anyone in the TO area that has built a Cobalt fast enough for roll bars yet.
If you have side curtain air bags , it should keep you safe enough (this is a mid 14 second car). If the appearance aspect is what turns your crank, a "FEAR THIS" decal in the back window should accomplish the same result for spectators.
J/K a custom performance shop is your best bet, Desired in St. Cath. has a good name.
Have fun with your car and Welcome.
Steve.

Well you see if you did get roll bars in your car and you got into a severe accident and one of the bars snapped or broke, it could possible impale your head...Or if you are keeping your stock seats then the impact of an acident might cause ur head to hit the metal cage... I honestly think you are safer in your Cobalt how it is because you have all the airbags and safety features around you. I would say if you are going to get a roll cage, then wear a helment while ur driving it...
This place makes roll bars and cages for the Cobalt, as well as many other vehicles.

I'm actually thinking of eventually putting in a Street-Sport Roll Bar just for the harness bar option. I want to install real racing style sports seats from Summit Racing with 5-point harnesses, and this is the only real harness bar option I've seen for our cars. I know Cobalt Addiction sells one, but with all due respect that looks like more of a show piece to me.

most true safety gurus will tell you that unless you are wearing a helmet, roll bars usually cause more injury than not having them would cause. This is because if you're in any accident severe enough to warrant roll bars, your melon is very likely to impact one of the bars during the accident.
Recomendation: Unless your Cobalt is a dedicated racer, or, you plan on wearing a helmet on the street, I wouldn't do it.
