Cobalt SS/SC headrest question

How can they get by with having headrest that don't meet D.O.T. standards? The new rule for headrest starting in 2005 moved the headrest forward to where they should have been all along to help prevent whiplash and IMO they are more comfortable anyway. The seats in the SS/SC don't appear to meet the standards to me. If someone is involved in an accident and gets whiplash in one of those cars they may have a good lawsuit against GM.

If they didn't meet the standards they wouldn't be on the roads.

Oh great, that is how I'm going to retire. I'll get into an accident and then sue the company for a faulty seat.

Someone Lend Me a Cobalt, I'm retiring TODAY!

WTF is wrong with this forum..?

Ditto.

As I said before, I hate my seats. That's probably most of the reason. That, and they're like sitting on bricks.

The Recaros are further back so you can fit a helmet on your head and not have to look down. Mine is perfect with my helmet on.

Mine fits perfect with a helmet on, I have the regular leather w/inserts. It's just that when I DON'T have a helmet on it hits me funny.

My 3000gt VR4 was perfect. The headrests adjusted forward and back as well as up and down.

My headrests are tilted forward in an extreme manner. It is kind of annoying to be honest.

People actually drive with their heads on their headrests ? I try that once in awhile and it is totally uncomfortable.

Look at the new Mustang headrests; tilted just like ours and they are on the streets too!

The D.O.T's ruling on this was this....

rule becomes mandatory for all vehicles manufactured on or after September 1, 2008. We decided to extent the lead time by one additional year in order to allow vehicle manufacturers to phase in the new head restraint requirements in conjunction with their natural product cycle. The four-year lead time will, in most instances, allow vehicle manufacturers to design compliant head restraints for newly introduced vehicles, as opposed to redesigning existing seating systems for vehicles currently in production.
It falls under 49 CFR Part 571
[Docket No. NHTSA-2004-19807]

Seriously do you really think GM would open themselves up to a huge lawsuit like this with all the problems they are having.

I think the forward tilted headrests are rediculous. The enly time I've even used the headrest is at the drive-in or something. On ANY of my cars. Luckily the Monte ones are normal.

As for the VR4, those things are sick. A guy who parks at my work has a white 98 style VR4 twin turbo. Manual. It's rediculous. Gotta love the twin turbo.

Yeah the forward tilted headrests are annoying and a pain in the neck, literally. I can never sit back in my seat because it feels like someone is trying to push my head down as far forward as it will go. Not that any of the males would have this problem, but forget about wearing a pony tail or anything in the hair either, makes it ten times as bad. Ditto what others have said, they need to have adjustable tilt as well.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now I see ... when I first started reading the thread im like WTF my head rests are just right to prevent whiplash ... then I went outside to my car and I figured out how you can get whiplash ... tilt your sit REALLY far back like your some kind of hooligan or like your trying to "act" like a hip hop-rap crap pimp ... in this position you will basically be laying down and the seat will provide no support at all ... now rock your head back and forth like a head banger and you will see that you can now effectively get whiplash by being a retard ... don't forget to scream the following phrase when practicing the head banging "It's my birthday YAAAAAAY ... YAAAAAAY"

headrest

Look at a 2004 then a 2005 cavalier and you will see the difference. My other car I got real cheap is a 95 Mitsu Diamante the headrest is adjustable.

you want to talk about sitting on bricks... I thought our ride was firm.... today I drove my mom's new Audi A4 Cabriolet... I couldn't believe it... it litterally felt like I was sitting on a piece of wood... man I don't see how she stands that thing as a daily driver...

Ditto to the ponytail thing...
I don't mind the headrests at all if my hair is down. I can either sit up or lay my head back on the headrest. Ponytails are impossible though, I usually rip 'em out after about 2 minutes of driving - I've had that problem in every vehicle I've driven though.
