CobaltSS Review

Well I have had my Cobalt SS/SC for 3 solid days now. Time for some impressions.

First what did I get? I purchased a 2005 Cobalt SS Supercharged. Arrival Blue with all ebony interior. I got the XM and the Sunroof free with the pre order special.

So first I am very pleased with the car overall. It looks very sharp, the interior is aweomse, but the sound system is by far the most pleasant suprise. It's not just loud, but the interface for the unit is also outstanding. Very easy to use compared to my aftermarket kenwood deck I was used too.

The seats are decent. They don't hold you in as much as the recaros (I have sat in the redline recaros), but there have a little support. Lots of leg room. After about 5-6 hours of driving I was still pretty comfortable in them.

The controls are all laid out very well with the exception of the driving light/dimmer/dic buttons. They are hide behind the wheel and it's darn near impossible to see them. But once you know where they are it's easy to use them without looking. I really wish that GM had put more gauges in the car. It's a bit distracting having to mess with the DIC controls getting up the different displays.

Driving the car is fun. The steering is very nice, compared to what I am used to with the alero and s10 I drove everyday before I got the Cobalt. There is a little body roll when your hitting a corner hard and if you give it gas you can very easily overdrive the car. I don't have the LSD so maybe that would help a bit. I am also used to RWD (in the S10) so I am relearning how to handle a FWD car. The engine has lots of power down low so it's very easy to drive and you don't need to shift a lot to stay inside the powerband.

I haven't had an issues with the gas gauge and I actually tried the A/C last night and it blew cold. No electrical gremlins so far.

Things are looking great so far for the Cobalt SS/SC....

Zinner -- I've noticed on my XM radio in mine, it won't display the Artist's and song name info, does yours? All I'm getting is the station name and when I hit the Msg button is just says "no info" RDS for FM works fine as do MP3 cd's.
