Considering an 06 Cobalt SS SC

Hi all,

I'm currently driving a 03.5 Mazdaspeed Protege and looking into acquiring an 06 (or 07?) cobalt SS SC. I'd like to know what are the most common issues that I would likely see with my new car. Further, should I wait for an 07? (I believe tht they have an aux input for an mp3 player but that's the only difference I'm aware of). Most importantly, should I get the performance package? I really like the limited slip on my 'Speed but i don't know if it's a "must" for the Cobalt...

any help would be appreciated

thanks

Jake

The color's titanium, but I'm nowhere near 40! Any feedbacks on the Cobalt?

The cobalt ss s/c is an awesome car. I don't have the limited slip package, but i did get everything else (onstar, xm radio, sunroof) and I'm freakin in love with it. I've only had it since april, and i don't have really any complaints. If i was to offer any ideas as to maybe make it slightly better, it would probably be a 6 cd changer, and the ipod mp3 adapter, i guess thats pretty much it. Like i said, i'm freakin in love with it! Also, i think i'm one of the few '06 silver cobalt ss s/c owners with the blue and black trim.

Get a Cobalt SS/SC, you won't regret it.

The Cobalt is a great car. Test drive it for yourself and make up your mind. If you like the Recaro seats, get the Performance Package. In fact, even if you're indifferent to the seats, get the Performance Package. It's a great deal. The only situation in which I would recommend not getting the package is if you for some reason can't stand the seats. But they are hotness, so I can't imagine why you would hate them.

I test drove it already and I was really surprised! It "oozes" torque! Hit the rev-limiter in 1st gear and the thing just made me smile. So in terms of fun, I don't have any doubts. What I'm wondering is if the car has issues that are not fixed by the dealership, for example my car hesitates but they never rally fixed that. Any common problems that irrate you guys about the car?

Thanks for the replies!

Oh, and does the limited-slip address the issue of wheel hop I've been hearing about?

I can attest to this, as a definate NO! Although I would recomend the LSD to anyone concidering this vehicle, especially if they have any intent on AutoX, or some strip racing as it helps a bit there too. Unfortunately the wheel hop is caused by the excessive movement this engine has when you hit a hard start. The only real fix is a torque damper like the one Ingalls provides for us.

All in all, I haven't come accross any issues with the vehicle, short of a speaker being blown in mine on delivery (which was fixed by the dealer obviously). Mechanically, I haven't had any issues at all, but then again I have only had the car for a month.

One thing that is slightly annoying is the fact that the doors do no unlock when you pull the handle on the inside. All my previous cars do this, so when I go to drop someone off, or pick someone up, they always pull the handle and look like an idiot for a few seconds while I scramble for the unlock button on the door. LOL!

The only issue i can really think of that they won't fix is the weak clutch that these cars have. I only have 88xx miles on my '05, and my clutch is almost completely fried...

Other than that, i'm in LOVE with my car, and would do it all over agian if i had the choice.

You wont regret it, if you want the chance of no bugs in the system to have been worked out get the 07, but mine is an 05 and the only issue i have had is my sunroof button fell off, but then i just snapped that sucker back on and it was good to go...

i have an 06' ss s/c and love it, not a lot of people have them so that is a plus, anyways I had one problem but a freak one at that , know one else has had my problem my wipers wouldnt work or the boost guage wouldnt work, found out they are wired together and run off the same fuse anyways a screw had been drilled into the out side of that specific wire and caused my car to pop a couple of other fuses anyways the dealer hooked me up and had it fixed in a day and its been good ever since no other problems.

Test drove it again, this time black (looks really nice) w/ the performance package. I like those recaro seats. Might go for it if that 0%/72months thing is for real. Now, should I get a stage 1 (or 2) right away, or maybe wait a bit. And, do most of you change the exhaust system, it's so....quiet.

Yeah it was def. quiet at first. I got intake and exhaust installed at about 500 miles. I would wait for the stage kits if I was you. Maybe around 2k miles depending on how much you drive. I'm going to get mine pretty soon I believe.

Anyone w/ the Recaro seats...how do they feel on long drives? Just heard that they are much harder than the stock seats. Quick reply would be appreciated, Gm just announced their 0% / 72 months promo.

The seats don't feel overly hard to me. Any new seats are going to be somewhat firm until you sit in them long enough to get them to conform more closely to your body. But I can't say for sure how they are on long drives, because I haven't tried one yet.

Well thanks a lot to all of you. Can't wait to drive it.
It's always nice to know there's a site like this one for my future car needs (and just for hanging out).

Quick question: does our SS/SC require premium fuel?

doesn't require it , but the car pulls timing if your not using 91 oct.
big differance in power, and feul economy.

the G85 performance package is a great deal, the only dounside i see to the package is that you can't get the two tone leather interior.
